Does Kenko extension tubes work on the 350D

I was planning to buy some Kenko Extension tubes, but have just read that they are not compatible with EF-S lenses.

This should be a problem, as I have 2 EF lenses (75-300 and 50mm) and 1 EF-S lens (Kit 18-55mm) and I was only ever planning on using them with the 50mm lens.

What exactly is the situation with the Kenko tubes? Does it mean that I won't be able to use my 18-55 with them, or does it mean that they won't work on the 350D at all?

Any info would be appreciated

I have the Kenko tube set with 350D and they work well. They just
don't work with EF-S lenses, that is, with your kit lens.
Phew.. Thats what I thought they ment, but thought I had better check.

Out of interest, whe it say that "they dont' work", what exactly does this mean?

I am assuming that its simply because the electrical connections have moved, you don't get any AF or Aperture control? If this is the case, I guess you could still use the EF-S lens, with a Wide Aperture and Manual Focus?

The electrical contacts line up, but the extension tubes have plastic baffles that are not compatible with the extended rear element of the EF-S lenses. Some users have successfully trimmed a wider hole in the baffle to allow the EF-S lens to fit.

What the situation with the DG version? I have just bought a 2nd hand set from Ebay and now noticed that the 'new' ones available are the "DG" varient.

Are the non-DG ones OK for a 350D with EF lenses?

The non-DG work with EF lenses and all EOS models.
Per Kenko's literature,
The DG Extension tube set has upgraded "Gate-Array IC" circuitry to
work better with digital SLR's and some of the digital SLR lenses*.
  • Retains AF function when effective aperture stays at f/5.6 or brighter
(f/8 or brighter on EOS 3, 1V & 1D cameras)."
The DG models will not mount EF-S lenses, unless you carve the tube's baffle wider.
