Bald Eagle on the Wing (FZ30+RDS)

I just happened by today--psychic or what? I'm so glad you posted these--they are truly amazing.

I was just about to post the other extreme--a Bushtit. Magnificance vs Cuteness. :-)

Glad you're back!!!!

..#1 is great, catching it just as at springs way from its perch adds some life to the shot. Thx for posting. cheers , Ron

Nice to be back!!! Sorry for the somewhat self-imposed exile. Pictorial pickings were slim during my Washington State sojurn due to the abominable weather. Remind me to get my head examined next time I do any travelling in the dead of winter. :o)

Best Wishes,
Steve

Wow, Respect for my superiors. Could you please tell me how you handle the focussing when using the RDS. I have really got the aiming thing down pat but my focussing is way out.

I seem to have the best luck with the high-speed 3-area AF but it seems to be the camera's decision whether it wants to lock-in or not, at least when I'm catching them in-flight. For these bald eagle pics I focused on them as they were perched and waited....and waited...until they took off. I use the flipped-out LCD to achieve focus lock then sight through the RDS. To each his own, though; Master John Reed has better luck with the high-speed 1-area focusing while the original RDS guru here, Bernard Zee, has an FZ20 and uses manual focus. If you're interested, I've put up a gallery for my RDS shots --- http://trailhiker.smugmug.com/gallery/899628
A lot of it is luck --- and patience!

Best Wishes,
Steve
