Hi all

I finally decided to buy a Canon A620 end of this month. Thanks to this forum for helping me choose a camera. I now have to buy SD card.

1) There are so many manufacturers out there like Sandisk, Lexar, Viking, Kingston. Are all these equally trustworthy??

2) What type of SD card should I go in for - Ultra II or the regular SD?? I previously owned a Viking 1GB SD card which my dad uses now either with his pocket PC or the old Minolta X20. Should I upgrade to Ultra type or should I stick to the regular type itself?

3) I am thinking I'll buy 1GB, but if I find a good deal I may also buy a 2GB card. What size can I opt?

Your help will be appreciated.

The second of these were 4 GB, was it not? Are you sure the camera handle > 2 GB?!

Good point and I didn't even think about that. No I am not completly sure, I have read that all new canons use the fat 32 file system but does this mean cameras released late in 05 does? I don't really know but I am sure there are people on these boards that do.

The Transcend 80x SD 1GB card is available from newegg.com for $30. The 2GB version is ~$72. The reviews for this card have been very positive on both this forum and the newegg site. Something to think about.

Just FYI..... I'm having some serious issues with the Lexar 32x 1GB card that I just bought for my new A610. Maybe I just got a bad one, but the pictures come out all distorted and you can't even see the picture. I've formatted and formatted and nothing seems to help the issue. Meanwhile, my old Sandisk 128 Mb card works great in my A610. Go figure.....

I bought the Transcend 80X 512mb card and have been very happy with it, too. A very good deal especially 80X speed.

Thats great feedback on the transcend sd cards, I think I will buy the 4GB model, thank again!

Keep in mind that page 120 of the advanced manual says that Canon has only tested cards up to 2 GB in size. They won't guarantee performance for cards larger than that.

Sounds like an issue with the card speed. Had similar problems with my S400 (European designation?) and a slower card once. Faster cards gave no problems whatsoever. Any amount of formatting will not help.

As I posted in the other thread on this, I use this card and have had absolutely no problems with it, on mac or windows, for direct transfers or with USB 1 or USB 2 readers.
