Wow! I'm gonna get rich!!

Maybe by then (100 years) you'll have enough money to buy a 500mm f/4.

Photography is a never ending tug of war in compromises.

and you can buy a CF card! Depressing, isn't it? It's nice on the one hand that "hey, I just sold a picture". Then you think, "yeah, but what does a 12 pack of Miller cost?"

I'm sure you're just testing the waters to see what's up, but I personally can't imagine buying thousands of dollars of camera gear, then selling the photos at a venue where you know full well you're not likely to recoup the cost of your equipment even in 5 years time. It just doesn't make any sense.

Yes, there are a few people who make a decent living from microstock, but shouldn't those people really be shooting for a big agency and making 100K a year instead? I don't deny their talent, but I wonder why they lowball their own products.

Michael, I was just testing the waters with only 4 images uploaded to them. I don't think I will be wasteing my time with them anymore.
Rocky

PS: I buy my Miller by the 30 Pack. Haha! Cheaper that way. A 30 Pack only cost $16.00. :-))

Its interesting to think about the economics of alcohol. In Japan here, beer is $3 a can, perhaps $2 if you buy by the case. The only thing substantial you can get for $16 is a 4-liter plastic jug of shochu (which is grain alcohol from potato) at the convienience store. 20% buzz for pennies if you like mixed drinks, but hell for beer lovers (especially when you consider the "variety" you have to chose from ;-)

I was over in Japan, I used to drink Asahi, and Nippon Beer all the time. Gurgle! Gurgle! LOL!

They finally lifted the statewide burnban. We did get some much needed rain, but not enough to help much on the drought.
Rocky
PS: I just opened me up another IS. Haha!
Glad to hear your going to be rich! If it is too much of a burden
on you, you can send some of the money to me! Hope you got enough
rain to stop the fires out there. Now go have another IS and
celebrate.

How does this place work and who sets the price of your pictures?
What kind of a cut do they get?
What a laugh ! I just got an email from Fotolia.com that one of my
photographs sold. I got a whole whopping $1.00 credit. Maybe in a
100 years I might get a small check from them. Hahahahaha!!

Any personal attacks from me are a temporary lack of judgment on my part and I apologize before it happens.

Selling (good) photos for almost free is not going to help those who do photography to get money for food. Fortunately (for me) I'm not one of them.

$1 is a waste of a transaction. Why do you have your images with a company that has such a low price? It'll cost more than $1 for everyone involved to transfer the $1.

That's just like being mailed a check for 50 cents for over payments. That check probably cost $5-10 at least to for everything involved, printing, stuffing, mail cost, approval, etc.

For sure you'll get rich as fast as your photographed object (sorry, subject) moves :-)

These ultra low cost sites that sell your photos for nothing and royalty free at that ... I don't get it, why cheapen your work like that? I'd much rather not sell at all than get only $1 per sale.

I've been thinking of getting that lens as well but, I'm having a
lot of trouble justifying the expense in my mind though.

jojo
In my mind I have no trouble justifying such a purchase........its my bank account that has the problem with that justification.
