A quick poll...jpg or raw?

Don't forget that your camera has the back up of the complete
wisdom of all the techno geeks in the R&D department of the camera
company.
True!! :-)
So if your pp'ed RAW image is better you've beaten the combined
wisdom of loads of experienced guys.
But they are the same guys who gave us the option to shoot RAW! ;-)))

There is no possibility to capture raw files in Ultra High Speed mode.

D7x have these modes, I don't know for the Ax - Zx series.

So does Adobe and Pixmantec have a legion of software geeks and gurus.

They may be xperienced and and have loads of wisdom, but there's only one person in the whole wide world who knows exactly how I want MY images to look like. Guess who that might be? ;-)

Always RAW.

Marc--I've been following your unfortunate story regarding your
camera loss. Hope it comes to a successful resolution real soon.
I just live a short distance down the NJ Turnpike from
you(Burlington County) and am willing to rent out my A2 to you for
megamegabucks/hour ;-)). Seriously, hope everything is resolved
real soon and resolved favorably for you. Let us know when you can
get back to serious photography.

Exactly. That's why I shoot RAW, like you. Let's celebrate, we are better than the combined techno geeks of Minolta. They can't do the per-picture tweaks that we can.

Hi Dunc,

You can dowload Raw Shooter Essentials at pixmantec.com, and give it a try.

Some fellows around here are very pleased with this program (I'm not, but maybe it's just me).
It's free, and very user frendly.

BTW, I'm surprised that you can't open raw files in PS7. But I don't remember how it works.

Probably that's because the geeks installed Dimage Viewer's Raw converter into our cameras! :-(

only pictures that are not that important and on which I do not want to spend time pp'ing are shot in jpeg

Now that the A2 can take raws with nearly no delay, and I understand how to use RSE better, I take only RAW...and I am very happy since making that change.

using different raw converters and editors, trying to match the "straight from the camera" jpeg images from my Konica KD-510z (Minolta G500).

I wasn't alone in this quest either (a couple of pretty sharp developers were trying to help out). This camera has a hidden "raw mode"

I gave up (the camera is a better processor than I am). lol

With my Maxxum 5D, it's a "no brainer" (shoot in raw, and you can have better results in a minute or two). But, I can't knock the jpeg processing of my little KD-510z. It's pretty darn good.

I like doing in-camera tweaks and getting the framing right in the camera. It's just a constraint I sometimes find forces me to think a certain way. The A2 allows one to do this like few other digital cameras.

I've upgraded the firmware however, and when I get a larger and faster card, I expect to do more RAW shooting. I like using RSE.

What cards work best with the new upgrade?

I've had my first experiements using raw shooter essentials (free!) and I'm so imperssed I can't see myself going back. Now I need to really explore the features, like using 2 differently exposed versions of the same shot to keep detail in both the highlights and shadows. It's an incredibly useful tool!

Thanks mate,

Downloaded it in seconds, and did a little tester...... first impressions are very good.

Many thanks

Dunc
