Took a photo walk around my neighborhood with my 5-year-old daughter. She had her her Looney Tunes 35 P&S and I had a Sony S85 (I do have a G2 on order and may send back the Sony; although I like the quality of the Sony, you G2 fanatics swayed me to get the G2). They are just informal fun shots but I suspect many family men (and women) need a camera to shoot kids and I haven't seen many samples in the galleries.

When I get my G2 I'll do another photo walk for comparison.

This was really a lot of fun. I got to teach her some basic photography and she loved it. For $11.99 and a roll of film you really can't go wrong. Stop and share your love for photography with a kid (neighbor or relative)--get them a cheep P&S this holiday instead of another Game Boy and shoot together!

Enjoy!

Wonderful gallery!!!

I really like the idea of the photo walk and you captured some great photos of the experience. I just bought the G2 and still have my Nikon 990. I'm debating between selling it and giving it to my daughter to get her started. The only problem is she's only 4 and it's way to much camera for her now. Anyway, I love your idea and your photos.

Really nice pictures. Looks like you two had lots of fun. You could consider getting her a 1.3Mp HP camera, they're going for around $100. Less than you'd spend in 10 rolls of film.
Herbet.

Thanks Jimmie,

It was a lot more fun than I thought. I don't know about giving her a 990. There's something nostalgic about having a 35mm. Years from now she'll say, "I remember when we had to WAIT to get our FILM processed." It teaches kids to be patient (unlike us).

My dad gave me all his old Nikons, which I still have (he's a photojournalist). I'm glad I learned on old F series cameras with no light meter and everything manual. It taught me to concentrate on the subject instead of fiddling with buttons.

Great idea, kids love that sorta thing too.

I laughed when I read Jimmies reply as I thought he said he was thinking of selling his Nikon 990 to his 4 year old daughter!

Really adorable shots! In a few years when you move on to a G3/G4/G5/EOS 3D, she can inherit the G2 - it'll be like your father's F2's: solid cameras and family heirlooms as well. And if she really takes to photo, by the time she's a teenager, digital will probably be mainstream and she can get a 30MP 1600ISO low-noise SLR w/20-500mm f/2.8 lens for cheap. And she can show her kids how she got started in photo w/grandpa.

Hi IbecameMac,

Great idea and shots, as well. Also, the captioning was hilarious.
But, I think we really all waiting to see your daughter's photos.

Brian,

You might have an idea there, although I think a "Rent- to- Own"
idea might work a little better for a 4 year olds cash flow and, after
all, it is his daughter.

OK, I'll post them and follow up. They are pretty funny. A kids' perspective is just great (everything shot worms' eye). Lots of blurry pics but what do you expect from a lens that looks like a fingernail?
