Interesting but not important. There are 3 forums with over 100K threads. So what! The important aspect is that these forums are Xtremely useful and many find these forums (not just Canon) very useful.

Also, Threads do not equate to views which do not equate to Sales. In the Final Analysis, it is not important who is bigger. The important aspect is that DP Review has the Best, Most Usefule, & Most Active Forums - several of them. We should all bow down & thank our WebMaster.

I beg to differ. If I were the head of marketing for Nikon, the trend in the statistics would be quite sobering. Just a few months ago Nikon Talk had a sizeable margin. The explosion of posts in Canon Talk occurred soon after the release of the G2 and has continued strong. Furthermore, the vast majority of new posts are related to interest in the camera as opposed to inherent problems with the camera.

Remember that the Canon Talk, Fuji Talk, Nikon Talk, and Olympus Talk spun off their SLR threads into corresponding forums. If you factor in the SLR forums, Olympus makes a strong showing, comparable to Canon.

But # of threads & messages is only a measure of gross volume, like measuring the # of pixels output by a particular digicam. How much quality is in that volume, i.e. what is the signal to noise ratio? You have to calculate that with gross volume in order to get the actual utility.

To all,

While the Canon may or may not be the 'biggest' forum on
DPReview, I would definately say it is the most consistent with
the least amount 'fighting' or least amount of 'inter-forum' angst.
