i know a few of you have the Olympus B-300 and are quite happy with the results.
Im just wondering how the Sony HG1758 58mm 1.7 teleconverter would fair out?
And does anyone know who makes the optics for this Sony lens?

I'm also wondering if that's a good alternative to the B300. Furthermore, it is a 58mm mounting thread, which means it is a larger lens than the B300. I guess that works to be lesser vignetting.

Would you tell us what is the brand name of L2 lense (Generic 2x lens) ?

I just got my VCLHG1758 today and found out something. You need a tripod to take shots with it at full zoom. OK I am a newbie. My shots were blury to say the least. Although I kind of think I see a bit of CA in them that the shaking would not account for.

I also got the VCLHG0758 for a matching set. So far I am very happy with it. I need to take some shots to compare it with the VCLMHG07A. Hopefully I can do that this weekend or before.

Last but not least I got both lens at dealcat.com. Each were $269.99 so with next day shipping and all they were $589.98. Sony wants $400.00 each on their site.

I am not satisfied the performance of VCLHG1758 upto this moment, maybe the problem is from me...

What do you not like about it? I tried the cannon 1.45 lens and the CA stood out so bad color blind people would have noticed. I am not joking. It bled over so much you could not help but notice. Thanks goodness I tried it in the store.

Currently the Sony lens is a little fuzzy around the edges but not that bad. I should also restate this is my second digital camera. My first was a Sony DSC-S50. I am still a newbie and very much learning. With that said if you look at some of the B-300 shots you see about the same amount of CA but I think they are a little less fuzzy. The catch is I can not get a B-300 so I have to make due with what I can get. Which the best lens I have seen so far is the Sony.
Here a re few shots with the Sony lens.

This is no lens no zoom. "www.granamere.com/1.jpg"

Hi Liman, I really didnt think your test shots were really that bad. Sure theres gonna be CA in the corners but i think that is gonna show up with other 1.7x converters too. I all depends on how much you want to deal with it.
check out this comparison:
http://ray.cg.tuwien.ac.at/rft/Photography/Tests/B300-vs-TCON14B/

now....its with a Nikon camera with an additional Nikon TC-E2converter(2x)

Yes....you read right...this guy ganged 2 converters together! The Nikon converter PLUS the B300...then tested same with the Canon TCon14B.

I notice very small differences between the Canon and the Olympus. The Canon being slightly cleaner. But then again....theres less glass!
It all depends on whats necessary for you...1.45x or 1.7x
i still cant decide! urgh...im getting a headache...lol
cheers

We probably got the same test results. I think the qualify is fine at the center of the picture, the digital zoom also good.

I would crop the center part or simply always use the digital zoom... to cut off the fuzzy cornors.

Chaining up two or more external lens seems could not produce good results. I would only add one tele at the best quality.

For me the F707 digital zoom just work great. The 17x (full tele + digital) is all I want.

Now, it seems the choice between the VCLHG1758 and B300... I would try to make a comparision and have more final decision later.

Liman after your last post why are you picking on the Sony lens? :) Come on it even looks like you are saying the only compairable lens to it is the B-300 that no one can get. :)
Admit it you love the Sony Lens. :)
Even if it is you love to pick on it. :)

want to make sure if I could have the best combination, that is whether
B-300 could be better with my F707.

I agree. I would prefer to get the best lens for the camera also. I am not sure if it is out there though. :) I hope it is. Still the catch is finding a B-300 if it is the best lens for the camera.
