I have had it!!

You know, I think you hit the nail on the head. The pictures here
on galleries from the 750z are awesome. I will get a few that are
ok, but not as clear and sharp as the canon! I may just be looking
for something that does not exist. My friends and family think my
pictures are ok, but I can see that they are not. Maybe I am just
a perfectionist. I will update my pbase pictures tonight and show
them to everyone. Maybe I am just asking too much at this time...
--without seeing any of your pix, the problem maybe you. what is your level of experience? you don't have to be a pro to get decent photos, just pay attention to what you are doing. read the manual, learn the limits of you camera, or you will have the same problem with the next one. possesion of a dslr does not mean a level of skill/knowledge has been attained, only that you possess a dslr. no disrepect intended.

18 years as a freelancer,(news, magazine, wedding photography) camera equip. over the years: Practica MLT, Canon A1, Minolta 9xi, 7xi, Dimage Z1(see my Z1 shots at http://www.photobucket.com ALBUM NAME: buckl the COMMUNITY album was done with the Z1, and most of the photos in the album:Other were w/the Z1)

Your canon has a bigger sensor to achieve the mega pixel rating, the Pentax has a much smaller sensor to acheive the some what same pixel rating. However, the biger the sensor the beter the quality even if the pixel rating is the same. . . . .

I bought a canon ixus 500 granted the camera has been superseeded but it takes compact flash cards. The 5mp picture can be enlarged to 16x12" with very sharp results. great little camera and fits on your belt even under a suit

The update to the F11, the F30, is becoming available now and has improved quality from the F11's.

You may be right. I have taken classes in college and have used my slr both film and digital and know it pretty well. That I'm not concerned about since I truly get great results with the dslr. However, maybe I just don't know the 750z that well. I use P and M and TV and AV and all sort of settings and see that there are better shots when I use the manual controls rather than p. So, I will take some pictures over the weekend and if I have some time, i will load them here for all to see...

Selecting a camera always involves accepting some compromises. A tiny, shirt pocket sized camera will not produce the same quality image as, say, a Hasselblad. You recognize that, of course. Canon, as well as others, has several pocketable models; some have up to 7 megapixel sensors. Their lenses zoom from 3X to 4X, about 35 to 125mm. I use the Canon S2 IS and love it; it's slightly larger, but the lens quality and the longer zoom fit what I do. Prices on the S2 have come down ($350 or so), due to the upgraded S3 coming out shortly. S2 images are excellent to 11 x 14; a couple at 16 x 20 are acceptable, both from the "wet process" at the local camera store and from my color printer.

I had - until recently - a Canon Powershot G2. This is a camera that I absolutely still love, and when I can afford it, will buy another. It is compact but a tiny bit on the bulky side, but oh so very versatile, and produces fantastic pictures.
