I have just taken the risk to update the firmware from the link before.
It claimed to
1)Improve S-mode for aperture setting to avoid overexposure
2)Increase battery life when LCD off
3)Reduce some red cast noise when taking very bright scene.

4)Improve M-mode preview condition to be matched with actual aperture and shutter speed setting.

Coz' it is nite time for some of its claimed improvement, I cannot confirm but anyway, I have upgraded it and no return unless brought back to CASIO repair centre to back flash the 1.0 firmware.

Could not understand what it say in the Readme.txt which is in Chinese. Appreciate you to throw some light.

Hi, SK

The txt file, I can't open it as chinese. But it's about the procedure when upgrading the firmware.

1) copy the qv4000.exe into the CF card (better w/ card reader or PCMCIA adaptor coz' I am using laptop)
2) Then, insert back the CF card into DC.
3) Pressing the cross knob (direction knob) and dial from OFF to PLAY mode
(Remember to hold the knob firm!!!)

4) Then u will see a prompt for asking ur to say YES or NO to upgrade the firmware.
5) Next to choose Yes by push the knob upward.
The upgrading process takes about 1min.

6) After that COMPLETE will be shown on LCD , then it automatically power off. (Be ease, it is not out of order or burnt!!)
7) Dial from PLAY mode to OFF and it will turn on normally again, all OK!!!
Very easy!!!

But plse be reminded that stable/ continuous power supply during flashing firmware is very impt otherwise, it might make DC out of order if power sudden cut in the mid way.

I suggest to use a newly charged batteries or AC adaptor to plug into the power teminal!!!

Finally, U can erase the qv4000.exe fr CF card.

Basically I cannot find much difference after upgrade, I think onethg most prominent is the AE-L will normal as shutter release value. Before, I saw someone posted here that the shutter speed is half of the shutter release. But it seems tick out this bug.

Nobu,

Thanks. I understand that if the batteries becomes flat during the flashing process, then the only way is to send it back to CASIO service centre for repair.

Would appreciate your advice what bugs this update address (to your knowledge). Thanks again.

Hello Nobu!

Could you please check which languages the new firmware supports? You can check that on your camera by opening the menu and selecting -> language!

Thanks a lot!

DK

It support the languages (3-type) pre-installed in QV4000. English, Japanese and Dutch. The other language support, U can find from the bundle CD-rom from QV4000.

I have checked with CASIO Singapore who confirm this update is not official release. Wonder where Ivor has download from.

Perhaps, by now you can throw some light/opinion if the improvements are as claimed. Thanks.

Hi,

Actually, I don't know how to review the version of firmware. But when u copy the qv4000.exe to the CF card and follow the steps I mentioned in previous thread, U will see the original version before upgrade. That is 1.0 version.

Nobu

While depress the control button (right of LCD panel), switch to play. You should see the firmware version.

Hi, SK> > The txt file, I can't open it as chinese.
In fact it's Japanese...
i found where this firmware came from!

it's from http://QVnet.casio.co.jp

i used http://babelfish.altavista.com to roughtly understand what's written there....

to download firmware you need to register over HTTPS (secure) ... wich does not work with babelfish - so i stopped my investigations there :)

the firmware 1.01 was claimed as "unofficial" somewhere in this thread - it is official!

just not known to all casio around the world (maybe because they don't speak japanese ?).

some comments to the installation procedure:

the .exe is just a self-extracting-archive...
you can start it locally and it will produce a directory with
a japanese readme.txt and a qv-4000.bin

then you copy the .bin to the rootdisk of you CF-Card
(MD is bad for camera-power... so i suggest to avoid it)

i did the copy over USB without use of an external CF-interface...

then turn the camera off,
hold the 4-way-key pressed,
turn on into play and follow the on-display instructions...

after this my camera greeting was in japanese
the installed languages were japanese, english, spanish

then i copied the correct language file from CD to rootdir of my CF-Card (erased the firmware .bin by the way)
power off ->
hold menu button ->
power on to playback ->
follow the on-screen text

my camera is fine and speaks german again :)

tau,

did you notice any improvements over version 1.0? Have you been able to navigate through the japanese menu and find the 'select language button'???? Any comment on whether it is worth to upgrade or not is highly welcome!
