My wife's photography business is using almost all digital imaging now. She uses a Canon EOS D30 and the results have been extremely pleasing. She does most of the actual photography and I get involved on the computer side of things. My question: does anybody know how to add a company name/logo that will print to look like hot foil press? For example, most everybody has seen "Olan Mills" stamped in gold on portraits. Is there a way to create this effect in Photoshop 6.0? I can get the name/logo on the print and looking exactly as I want with the exception of a true metallic gold look. The golds I have produced come out looking more yellow and definitely NOT metallic. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks --Jeff

It is difficult to make a metallic looking image on digital. Even if you scan the Olan Mills thing, it comes out brown, not gold. That is because in order to have a metallic looking image you need to be able to show that it is reflecting. Size becomes a problem. Large metallic images are easy in Photoshop, but it is impossible to make tiny gold print, the computer just can't do that.

You can prove that by trying something. Find some great looking silver or gold print and cut a small second of it out and put it into a new picture. Guess what, it is yellow, grey or black.

You really need to find a better effect for your logo than gold print. There are plenty, you might try shadowing or 3D effects to make it look good.
