Coming on the heels of the "How old are you and how much have you spent" survey...

It seems that a number of people here who aren't Professional Photographers by profession are in the field of IT (Technology)...Myself included.

So, just wanted to see who else is in the same boat!

Bus driver, part-time. Average about 5 hours a day, tooling around a beautiful little island in Puget Sound, hauling lovely people to and from the ferry dock.

I also work in the proshop at the islands golf course, in season. That's primarily for the golf and a little extra mad money.

Computers and photography are just a hobby. A very expensive hobby. I see all this geek stuff as a back-up plan B. If I absolutely had to, I could make some money at it. I just don't want to. That's what jobs are for.

I'm acquainted with some professional photographers, and frankly, they scare the hell out of me. They have skills, patience and sensitivity that I ain't EVER going to get near. Besides which, they work way too hard. john

Retired, got that "Retired" Captain NJ Dept. of Corrections. Did pro

photography, weddings, birthday partys, portraits, etc. for over 30 years as a sideline for x-tra cash, to support the hobby. Had my 1st darkroom at age 14 now 63. Lord how quickly it passes.

Not surprising -- not only are we often the first to embrace new technology, but just frequenting (or even finding!) this forum requires a certain amount of IT ability.

What is the purpose of such stupid, inane questions and surveys?????

Photojournalist. 10 years ago I was working full-time in computer science at a university's academic computing center. I was a music major in college--go figure.

I am a Sales/Marketing Manager for a Designer Jewelry Manufacturer covering 17 States and also produce the full line CDROM catalog for the company. This way I get to integrate my hobby with my work. I also take November through January OFF as I don't travel during those months and get to spend all my $$$ on my toys. Usually getting to know new technology that is released at that time of year. It usually takes me until May to financially recover.....just in time to get broke again come November. It is a never ending vicious cycle, but at least I am happy. :-)

Retired Senior PGA Tour, professional golfer.
The D30 has given me a smooth transition from travel and competition.
Love it...

R&D/Elastomer Lab Tech. for an oilfield service company.

I just became interested in photography as a hobby this year mainly because of the amount one can learn when you can view "instant" results from digital rather than having the expense and "wait time" of film. My only mistake so far was buying the G1 and thinking it would be a camera that would last me several years without needing to upgrade (and telling my wife that it was all I would ever need)
...the D30 is now on my christmas list 8 months later.

For the record I am 34 and have spent $1200 on photography so far. About to spend lots more. Hope the Christmas bonus is good this year!
