EF 24-70 2.8 L with Canon teleconverter x1.4 or x2 ?

I really dont want to be impolite but I think that you should buy a good compact.
No offense but it makes no sense to ruin one of the finest zooms made by canon.
If you want to stick with DSLRs buy yourself a 28-135 IS USM and learn!

More than an advice I would like to see the difference between a 24-70 + TC2x in the 70-140 range, and another canon lens in the 70-140 range without TC.
So, show me the difference, that's what I wish.

OK about learning. I have been always ready for that.
I am not interested in buying the 28-135 IS USM.

I don't understand why you seem to worry so much about me using a TC with the 24-70 in the 70-140 range !?

Ok, I will try to do that. I have the 24-70 and canon converter but as other said earlier it wont fit.

But I will ask a friend to lend me a 3rd party converter and after that I will make some comparison pics with the 100-400L. I have also the 70-200/2.8L but this comparison can be very crude.

But until I find the TC let me explain something.
Putting a TC on a 24-70 is like using a Ferrari for off road races.

Although the Ferrari is a very nice car, it did not ment to be used in a Safari. That teritory is reserved for a Land Rover.
The situation is with this lenses also.

Very fine, and thanks in advance.

If the tests confirm your fear, I promise never add a TC2x to the 24-70, even if I see a bear in the distance the day I have not the 100-400 :-))

Perhaps he is worried that you are going to spend a LOT of money on equipment that you just don't know well enough. Every experienced photographer knows that a TC on a wide angle = no go. And well, not to be impolite either, but it seems that you really don't know that and thus you are not very experienced. And if you're not experienced, why are you then buying all this expensive equipment if cheaper equipment would suit you just as well?

We're worried that you might be wasting your money on equipment that you won't use to its full potential.

It's not that we judge how and on what you should spend your money, but we are hoping that you spend your money wisely. We've seen just too many people here buying a 5D with a 24-70/2.8, thinking that every picture will be beautiful now, and then they come back and complain that their cheap Ixus takes better macro shots than their $ 3000+ DSLR set.

If you are willing to be content with just 'ok' pictures, (eg. by using a TC on a 24-70L ), then why not get a good 'ok' lens (like the 28-135) and spend the difference in money on other lenses (eg. fast primes or a nice macro) or more accessories (a good flash).

I thank you very much for your advice.
Again, I don't ask for an advice about how to cleverly spend my money.

I just would like to see photos shot with a 24-70 plus TC2x at 70 to 140 mm (most in the 100-120mm). If you really want to help me, try that.

BTW I don't see the 24-70 on a 30D as a wide angle lens.

Slyves is helping you out on that. Waste of his time though, since we already know the conclusion.

You should. 38mm is still wide angle.

will L glass do better than buying and lugging around yet one more lens. I hear ya. I'd love to leave a few at home if the teleconverter does a decent job on my 24-105. I'll take some more this week. The only problem I see is low light problems focusing, in which a cheaper lens might not have that problem.
