Who's got the best pricing on the D200 body? Legit sites/stores only. I have dealt with OneCall & Adorama before.

The D200 is one of (if not the) hottest camera out, you not going to see a discount anytime soon. Especially since noting out there in its price range can touch it, banding or no banding it’s a great camera.

I have heard of some people on waiting lists for a discounted D200, but it may take a couple of months to get it. Roberts is reputable from what I hear.

Please, check vender reputation yourself before ordering. Lots of promises not kept out there. Secondly, what is there return policy? So very important.

I just got one from buydig.com at the list price of US $1699. I don't think I've seen it for less from a reputable place, but if Roberts still has it for $50 less, I'd try there.

The problem is more in finding one available (I wanted body only, not with lens). At this point in the product cycle discounts are going to be very hard to find. A year from now it'll probably be easy. But it's not a year from now yet!

Ecost has always had the D200 at 1599, not sure about their stock though. The only person here I've heard of who purchased from them got the camera within a week.

I've purchased from ecost before, they are generally reputable (none of the downright nasty stuff you hear about those Brooklyn-esque hard-sell dealers). They're more like buy.com or overstock.com.

The other thing that kind of bothers me is what about an extended warranty? I bought my D70 locally from a Ritzcamera and got their extended warranty which I've seen other people boast about on this forum so is there any other e-shops out there that can even touch Ritz's warranty as far as value?

True. That is why it is not wise to pick a seller purely on price. Find one that allows you to return the camera for a refund without a restocking fee. That would be the best deal you can get on this camera.

When I bought my D70 two years ago I bought Ritz's extended warranty. I haven't had to use it yet, and with my D70 now going to backup duty hopefully I'll not need the warranty.

This time around I used my Amex card which automatically gives me another year added to Nikon's basic 1-year warranty. But I'm considering buying an add-on Nikon warranty. It's apparently going for $140 to $160, but may be a wise precaution for a $1700 purchase.

Well, replying to myself - I just called Nikon USA. I was told that the extended warranty must be purchased at the same time as the camera. Since the dealer from which I purchased the camera offers the Mack extended warranty but not the Nikon extended warranty, I cannot buy a Nikon extended warranty for this camera.

it must be mailed in within TEN DAYS of purchase. So you could purchase it separately and send in the card. As an aside, early owners of the D200 were able to "post-date" their warranty cards since the warranty was "out of stock" unitl around mid-January. I got mine for $99.95 at J&R - I see today it's going for $149.95 -- "if ya snooze, ya lose".....

--I bought my D200/18-70(Nikon) on eBay (winning bid) from Cameta Camera for $1895 including shipping. I had a D70/18-70(Nikon) which I sold on eBay. Cameta also has the Body-Only on eBay with most bids ending between $1750-$1850. I figured that it would be easier to sell my D70 with the lens. I got the lens with the D200 for (only) $176 more that the MSRP of the camera alone. You can find D200s on eBay (from Nikon USA dealers) for MSRP if you look carefully. Also found a few Scam listings that I turned in to eBay.

for $99. I can't vouch for the seller.
