GoriliaPod

If I knew what it was I might answer this question. Even the internet couldn't tell me!

Oh wow, that's interesting....

it says max weight 335g (12.5 oz) and the capacity is compact digital cameras, so my guess is that it won't hold the d70 at all....

Doesn't look like it would be strong enough for a D50/70 with just about any lens. I noticed the cameras used in the advertisement are quite small.....Ralph

I emailed the company to see what the offical response is .... I agree it looks kind of weak for our camera.

Hi,

On the link you provided, there is some video on the c/net site that shows it in action. From the looks of it, I would have to agree that it looks much too lightweight for the D50/70. On the same site there was an ad for another type of "pod" called the monsterpod. It uses some kind of sticky moldable plastic with a tripod thread on the top. It also looks much too lightweight for a DSLR.

You might consider "the Red Pod" from Bogen. It's a bean bag with a tripod screw and basically you just screw it on to the tripod mount of the camera and use it to brace against objects like fences, trees, walls, etc. It does look like it would support a D50/70 and could also screw into a tripod mount for a larger lens. They only run about $15. I have been contemplating buying one for those times when you can't use a tripod...however, a simple bean bag or rolled up jacket would probably do the same job, but just not as elegantly as the red pod. You can learn more about the red pod at:

Be sure to check out the video.

Here's one that is small, light, and will hold a D70 and smaller lens...

It has an attached Velcro strap on the back leg, which is not shown well in the photo. There is also a larger and heavier clamp available for the piece.

And here is one that will hold just about anything you care to try...

This is easily modified with a heavy velcro strap. The last time I saw one in use, it was strapped to a pole and supporting a Fuji S2 and Nikkor 14mm ED.

Of course the Ultrapod with clamp is $40, and the Bogen Magic Arm with accessories is $130.
