I've got an HP 9800 and would like to try some prints on canvas. In searching the HP site, I don't see anything that indicates the 9800 can be used for canvas prints. I've also looked at the printer specs and some of the canvas products specs. Those I've looked at seem to exceed what the 9800 can handle.

Is there anyone out there who has tried this? If so, any details about how you did it would be great!

I've been experimenting with my 9800, I've not tried canvas but have found it starts to choke on heavy / textured papers, even when fed from the rear slot. I think the HP spec is about right regarding paper weights (unfortunately)

Yes the 9800 and other Photosmarts previous to the 9180 can but don't like thick media. I could try some canvas tomorrow. I'll let you know. I don't think it'll like it though.

PS the 9180 has no problems on Canvas, in fact there is a perfectly balanced Canvas made for HP for this printer.

I know that Neil, I saw it print using it a Focus on Imaging - I just want to get hold of one - stop teasing! LOL

I look forward to hearing how you get on with the canvas through the 9800, I chickened out after I seized mine up with a heavy, textured watercolour paper - its working again fine now though but once was enough

So Canvas does work after all. The 9800 should be the same as the 8750.

I first tried with a sheet of canvas but after it was in the ready pre-load area the edge curled . When the job came into the printer the media advanced and went up and over the narrow paper roller slot.

So I simply taped a sheet of photo matte with double sided transparent tape and loaded that. I used the HP Phot settings and it is suprisingly colorful, and matches the screen.
PS this is the new HP Canvas for the 9180.

colourgeek,
Thanks! I'm really glad to hear this. Couple more questions.

Did you use the front or rear feed.

Is your canvas roll or sheet.

If I check out the 9180 at HP will I find the info on the canvas, there? Or is it elsewhere on the site?

Thanks again!

rear feed surface up straight path. Would it work with a page double sided taped to the canvas? Probably.

Sheet cut down from A3+ HP Canvas for the 9180. Nice media, easy to use and easy to profile. I am surprised by the colors as alive as other semi-matte media. The other samples I've print on canvas have always been in roll. This is my first sheet fed experiment. It seems that even on roll it's memory is less than that of glossy on 2" core.

I don't know, but in the press releases the canvas is there in the new medias section.

I like the idea of using the photomatte as a "carrier" - I think I will have to have a go - thanks
