These are tools, as well as toys. I bought first quality stuff that
will serve me well, forever. Photography is a great skill, and the
resulting product is precious. I've learned a lot, about a great
many things, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I've still got a
lot to learn, and I'm excited about that, too. I can't see that
I've wasted a dime.
Well said, John; I agree heartily. I'm 57, early-retired 3 years
ago, and a photog for only 1-1/2 years. I've loved every second of
it. I do mostly landscapes and nature (no wildlife) and have
REALLY enjoyed getting to places (the Antelope Canyons of n. AZ, SW
Colorado for fall colors, Yosemite in the spring, Great Smokies NP
this fall with Michael Reichmann, etc.) I've never seen. I'm
trying to be a professional photog but have sold only a few prints.
My new 24"-wide printer (Epson 7000) will arrive next week.

Including the printer and both D30 bodies, I have about $17K invested.
Ladies and Gentlemen...we have a new champion!! Whew!! I'm retired but not early unfortunately. Good for you. The best thing you can do is get totally involved...the D30 makes the whole program worth it. I agree with the expense...go for it. I'm doing the same darn thing and lovin' every moment of it. Why don't you download the manual from the 'net and study it beforehand? Then you're ready to go when the 'damn thing' finally arrives.
