No launch without a major announcement and they wouldn't do that a month before Photokina.

You can put this rumor to bed.

Everyone complained about how Fuji made the announcement so long before the delivery of the S3, but now that they may be holding off on the announcement for the S4 until they are close to being able to deliver, everyone is mad at Fuji for waiting so long to announce. I guess you just can't win. :) We'll see what happens when it happens. If they continue with the image quality of the S3, I'm sure I'll upgrade to the S4.

You have to learn to speak the language. An announcement is just a piece of paper as in a press release. It goes to some news outlets, internal distribution and the company website. Now a LAUNCH is the full blown deal, press conferences, dealer meetings at exotic locals, full page ads in magazines, give aways, hand outs, lots of time and money spent to make the product a hot item.

Hi Donovan

Two weeks ago, Fuji in Sydney knew nothing, would not admit to a price drop on S3 etc, had not heard of the USA announcement either. Which photographic group are you with? IAPP? Email me privately if you wish.

The murmurings I have heard from contacts in Japan and UK have always pointed to a PMA announcement, of which I've mention here a few times. Of course this leave me with egg on my face. However, I still have no reason to doubt them which suggests the final hurdle may have been moved or fine tuned for some reason.

My personal thoughts on it rest with Fuji adopting a new and much more improved marketing approach. They blundered miserably with the S3. By the time S3 stock was available the hype had well lost its steam and the entire exercise went from positive to negative in the eyes of many consumers.

Perhaps, and its only a big perhaps, they are deliberately working to build up interest momentum then land the goods actually on the table when there is little else being announced and while interest is peaking.

Wouldn't Fujifilm do a major announcement just before Photokina, in other words in the time period 1 week to 1 month before the show? August or early September would be right for a major annoucement. Most camera companies do their major annoucements right before the big shows, don't they?

not that i am trying to single anyone out. but, cant anyone read? a fuji event, attended by fuji reps. they said MAY be launched. that is to say, possible. so maybe or maybe not launched in august.

so i can wait till the d200 is available and in stock for some time. cant we all relax on this subject? people are being nice and passing what ever information they have. if we keep shooting the messenger, we will harm the forum as no one will want to say anything. for fear of massive negative replys.

I agree!

I enjoy the 'will it, won't it' tension the possible existence of the S4(S5,6,13..) brings.

My S2 is showing serious wear and tear and will have to be replaced at the end of this wedding season- to replace it with an improved design such as those being speculated upon would be great, but I also know I can buy another S2 or S3 at much reduced cost- I shoot high res JPEG so the need for a huge buffer doesn't really affect me. Yes, I've considered Nikon, but I'm happy to wait a few more months to see what happens.

Flamers, you have every right to over-react to these types of post, I just wish you wouldn't! We know it's all speculation and conjecture, that Fuji could pull the plug ala KM, that Fuji reps have no idea what's going on, that Jumbuck has made the odd faux pas- but lighten up, guys, take deep breaths and count to ten before moving on to the next thread.
It'll do your blood pressure a power of good!

'What does this button do....?'

They haven't done that in the past and I don't expect that to change. That being said, my guess is an announcement at Photokina, a re-announcement at PMA the following March and shipments to begin spring/summer '07.

They might decide to concentrate on the consumer sector where
volume and real $$$ is. The S3, while a great cam image wise, was
not well received from a market standpoint. And the DSLR is
starting to get crowded.

Management might simply not go ahead with the S4.

That is very realistic... Makes a ver good point..

A very good point, but Fuji have already said they are committed to the DSLR market. But then they are allowed to change their minds, the DSLR market is starting to look a bit crowded as you said. My main concern is the lack of body now that Nikon have given up producing many film cameras, can they use an F6? Will Nikon let them use a D70 or D200 body? Who really knows? When Fuji say they are committed to the DSLR market, perhaps they mean producing sensors for others to use. A Nikon body with a good Fuji sensor makes sense to me. Fuji also have a few nice MF cameras, including the excellent 617 panoramic camera. Perhaps they are behind the scenes making digital versions of these models?

Pure speculation on part, unfortunately the Fuji rep I know claims his job is marketing what they already have in production and he is not privy to whats coming next, although he doesn't see any reason why Fuji wouldn't continue to produce new DSLR's.

Regards

Simon

Funny you should say that.

I have an actual pic of the new Fuji S4. Yes, that's right I have a pic of it and have had it for over a week now. Not an official shot but a highly detailed one nonetheless. It does not contain nameplates or any badging so there is nothing really to identify it as the new Fuji S4 Pro. And no, its certainly not a fake.

It has been sent to me on the understanding I will not publish it anywhere or post it in these (or any other) forums until I am given permission to do so. I have agreed. And no, I still don't know the specs yet, its only a picture of the body with the Nikon 17-55 attached.

For those who have followed my posts over these last six months you will know I have been the recipient of some very venomous comments. Few believe anything anymore, and to be frank, with so much unfounded speculation out there I can't really blame those who have been highly critical of my information.

However, the information I have come across has always been reported here in good faith and I have always gone out of my way to let people know information has come to me via highly reliable sources involved in tertiary testing for Fuji and, more recently, Nikon too. I always conceded that with this being the case it is itself only speculation. Proof is impossible because of circumstances.

So there you go. Once I am given permission it will be here in all its glory and I'll expect the odd apology from a few of you.
