I've had the 1280 for a couple of weeks now and I'm not overly impressed with it's quality yet. I seem to get tiny little lines any time I have solid colors. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

My 1280 also gave me those tiny little lines. Is this the only thing which is bothering you ? I can see those tiny little lines only when I hold it up to my nose and under bright light. Within normal viewing condition, it's unnoticeable and forgivable.

Some people said it's the picture resolution and printer. If you noticed, these lines don't show up in all prints. Try to change your print resolution to something e.g. 180, 240 dpi and see ?

I'm happy with it, even with those lines.

(also in some paper, e.g. color life- those lines are dissappear, try other paper e.g. luster, semigloss)

Do you sell your prints as professional quality? That's my goal in order to pay for the printer. Even 1 hour foto doesn't have lines like this.

I had one print with the tiny lines. Some sort of driver conflict with the USB. Uninstall, reboot, reinstall, maybe move the USB. Try the parallel port. Shouldn't be any lines whatsoever.

YOu guys haven't used Epson's very long.

What you are seeing is from the roller that is moving the paper along. If you print at 2880 is worse since the paper move twice as slow as with 1440. This has been a problem from the 1200 ,1270 and now 1280. Epson only puts rubber wheels on the 2000 series and on up.

Answer, it depend on the paper you use and the print. If you use premium Glossy, which I do, you are going to see them all the time when you have a black or dark back ground. Most often you won't see them after you have mounted or framed the image.

Its not a driver issue, its a design flaw that Epson refuses to fix.

If you go back say 6 months on this forum or others, you will see a huge number of posts about this subject, Some people acutally modifiy their printers, its not that big a deal to me, or maybe I am just used to it.

Excuse me Paul.

I had a USB driver issue. It caused tiny lines. I had it for one print. Removing and re-installing the drivers fixed it, and now it's gone. I've got the before and after prints to prove it.

Without that fix, I would undoubtably still have the problem. Not a huge problem, just tiny lines, but certainly enough to suggest that Epson makes a crappy product.

With the fix in place, I'm more than pleased.

Whatever a pizza-wheel mark is, I'm not suffering from it. Not on matte, not on photo gloss. I see no marks at all. Just prints. Butter smooth fields across the spectrum. Accurate color, seamlessly subtle gradation. The whole print package.

No lines, tiny, pizza, squiggly or otherwise.

Whatever axe you're grinding with Epson, I'll pass. I'm personally of the opinion that they make a fine printer, especially for the price.

Jeff had a problem, and it sounded familiar. I tried to give him the benefit of a similar experience. You tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.

What's up with that? John

I've been using an Epson 1200 since they came out......

Never had any lines whatsoever...on any paper...with any color background.

Period.
