p850 Freezing Until Batt. Removed?

I tried the video on the P850 and encountered a problem. The video was very good, in fact better than expected. For the test I just used the internal memory. I downloaded it to the computer with no problems. When I went to delete the video I realized the camera had gone black, the green camera on light was on but nothing else. I tried turning if off and back on but it would not shut off, the green light stayed on even with the camera in the off position. I finally had to remove the battery and reinstall it to get the camera to work again.

That's exactly the problem I've reported...only not using video. Something "freezes" the camera and it's just a matter of figuring out what.

And I guess, it is not that something 'WE' consumers can figure out.

It looks like - Mike and his panel of engineers at Kodak needs to take care of this - if it occurs in many P850s.

Hi, Mike,

I have read with interest the threads on the subject of p850 freezing. I recently experienced this on a trip to Egypt where I took 483 photos. Every now and then the camera would freeze, and I found out that by turning it off, pushing the shutter release a couple of times and then turning the camera back on, everything was back to normal. The battery indicator showed a good charge when this occured. Since returning home, I have upgraded the firmware and so far have not had a problem with the camera freezing.

Has this problem been solved and what was the solution?

Basic fault in the camera design or Users' inability to use the camera well?
Ok, I love this camera, but I'm about to return it! It gets a black
screen and then won't shut off or restart until I remove the
battery. This happened before the firmware upgrade, and has started
happening more frequently when I'm using the camera for a decent
amount of time. It's getting to be really annoying!

Can anyone tell me a trick to stop this, or is my camera defective?
