I have used the lens for the first time only got it two days ago the weather is cold and wet so I tryed indoors I am not that happy with the photos I wasin the conservatory may be that was the reason please comment
I have just started using this lens myself - I love the versatility, and so sharp - a little unforgiving for portraits at time. It has finally pushed me to get the E1 off the shelf where it has been gathering dust for a year - next to the very dusty E-10. Haven't tried posting before so here's hoping with the images.
You mention the conservatory - some condensation perhaps?
Hi Your photos cant find your site.I am very pleased with the E300 my conclusion is that what ever lens you use its the way that you use it.there are so many factors that have to be right to accomplish a good photo thanks for your comment John
Yes - it should the user not the tools. The pix should be on my second mail in the thread. The shallowness of the depth of field with this lens is amazing.

At that distance, your depth of field (range of subject in focus) is very small. You notice how in the lips picture, the top lip is out of focus but the bottom is in focus? You could take several pics with aperture changes say from wide open to F8 and see the DOF difference.
Hi Yes I have noticed also that when using the 50mm on the oly that the focus ring seems to make no difference is this how it works on macro settings cheers John
depth of field. Autofocus isn't really suitable for maximum magnification pics. This is true for all AF macro lenses and not just Olympus's. The use of a tripod is optional .... and a pain if you are trying to quickly move your prefocussed camera to and fro at the subject (e.g. a figety bug).
I really like this lens...just keep on shooting, tryin different f stops and shutter speeds...I like the results so much, that I hardly ever take it off my E300...
flower is very, very small...wind blowing a little bit...
