I decided I'm going to risk it and try this lens on my 7D, but just before I do, is there anyone with a bad experience with it?

Here are the facts so far:

Sigma Japan tells me that "This lens does not support Konica Minolta 7D camera and upgrade service is not available either", but also that "Unfortunately, since these three lenses are discontinued long time ago
and we do not have any chance to test them at our Quality-Assurance

department." (the 70-210/2.8 APO was one of the three lenses they were referring to).

In this forum, brettania reports that his copy (SN# is 20091xx) works, and so did jclines (SN# is 20049xx). My (actually my friend's) lens is right in between - SN# 20075xx.

I'll give this thread a few hours, and if no-one reports of any bad experience and I'll take the plunge and try it. Hopefully, it won't get stuck on the camera...

Mine works just fine with my 7D. Its one of my favorites.
Here is a shot I took few weels ago.

Thanks. I'd be happy if you could check that SN when you get back home. Better for me to be safe than sorry ;-)

Very nice picture. Is your lens the 82mm filter version?

Yes, mine works fine. (77mm filter version).
I guess your lens is newer, because the one that I have has an 82mm filter thread.

Hi, my lens works, it has an 82 mm thread. I am at work right now, so S/N not available...

Best regards,

Pio

Can´t tell you s/n, but it´s bought brand new ´98 or ´99. It works perfectly with film D9, but misfocuses with D7D. I just can´t undestand, why!!! Still it is quite good glass, though products lots of disturbing lens glare...

I wonder why there are so many focus issues with newer cameras. I just found out that my 50/1.7 front-focuses significantly on the 7D. I never had any such issues with my 8000i or with my 7xi.

My 77mm filter version of this lens works on my 7D - NT

I couldn't get to test this earlier, but now that I have a new 7D (instead of my old lemon one), I tried this lens and it works great - AF, AE and all.

The only problem I have with it is the external rubber surface that feels a bit "sticky". Any tips on how to clean/renew it?

Thanks!

1. Have you had any experience with tele-converters? Any issues? Which one should I get? The Sigma ones are out of stock in most places, but Kenko and Tamron converters are not difficult to find.

2. What is the optimal aperture, and how much should I stop-down to get good results?

Thanks again!
