I posted about a week ago that I was looking to buy a digital camera for my work. I was only working with a $400 budget and decided to go with the dx3600. When I got to Office Depot however, they were running a special on the dx3700. Same price as the dx3600 and as a bonus - a 64 MB compact flash card.

Now... I didn't know any better, since I went in to buy the other camera, I didn't really realize the differences internally and the sales person didn't know anything about the camera... they had just gotten it in.

The dx3700 has 8mb internal memory, so I hadn't even put a card in. Imagine my surprise today as I am trying to put in the compact flash card, to find out it is too big. It takes a different kind of card.

I already opened the compact flash card... and the camera... but I am taking them both back tomorrow after work. I already ordered a compact flash card reader online... so I am going to TRY and convince Office Depot management that since it is their screw up for promoting the wrong media type for the camera, to exchange the dx3700 for the dx3900 and let me keep the 64 MB of memroy for the dx3900. Anyone think I'll be successful?

And... before I go in there - is there anything I need to know about the dx3900 - any special batteries or anything - special type of compact flash card?

Thanks in advance... Ellen--Ellen

Office Depot should have given you the correct card for that camera. If they made a mistake, they should correct it. Best of luck. Let us know how you do.

I use type I compactflash cards in my DX3900 and rechargeable NiMH 2 AA batteries. It's good to hear that you are going to use a USB card reader. With that combination, I avoid the dock, and I've had great results.

OK....

I AM BACK FROM OFFICE DEEPOT!! And I am one HAPPY CAMPER!!!

I spoke to customer service.. who said they didn't think the Manager would give me the upgrade to the dx3900 for nothing. I had her pull the ad from last week which advertised a free 64MB Compact Flash Card with the purchase of the dx3700 for $299 (ad also stated price was down $100 from original price of $399), and I asked for her to page the Manager.

I explained the situation to the Manager... he pulled out a dx3900 ... and checked to make sure it took the Compact Flash cards and then asked me what I thought would be fair. So I told him... honestly because the ad falsely advertised the wrong card type which swayed me to buy that camera, and that the ad stated the original price of that camera was the same as what he sells the dx3900 for everyday - that I thought he should swap the cameras evenly and let me keep the cards - and that he should contact Kodak to reimburse him.

He said "sounds fair to me and I want to keep you happy" and he gave me the dx3900 in its place.

So I got the dx3900 plus 64mb of memory for $299!

WOOOOHHHOOOOO - now to take some picctures!!!!

lucky dog

btw the dx3700 does not have "optical" zoom.
either ways, I think someone dropped the guy
who decided to put sd/mmc slots in the dx3700
on their head as a baby.

oh and you should definitely get rechargeable
batteries, and a pack of 4 AA batteries.
i recommend the rayovac 1hr charger + 1.6AH
combo. I believe it sells for around $40.
pro - 1hr charger, 4 independant banks (1 battery per bank)
con - no discarge feature.
  • promotes even charge states.
the 3hr Maha MH-C204F charger is very popular
and a charger + 4 1.6AH AA combo is around $30
pro - 2 conditioning banks (2 batteries per bank).
con - charge batteries in pairs only
note: charger can handle 4 batteries but each
pair are connected serially to 2 monitors.

I admire you for getting them to correct their error, with some penalty. You earned it. Good job. Congratulations on getting your new DX3900 camera. Let us know how you like it.
