Survey, your age and how much you spend on last 12 months with your D30

Age:31

Spent: $8000 on the D30 and Canon Accesories (lenses, flash) and CF Storage

$4500 on Apple Powerbook, Software, and Epson 1290 Printer that I use exclusively for digital imaging and video.

So each of the 3000 "keeper" images in my Media Library have cost approximately $2.66 based only on the camera costs, and $4.16 based on the computer and camera cost combined.

I need to use the D30 LOTS more to feel good about my per image costs.... but then again, I have taken some images that are "priceless" and I'm enjoying myself.

Total Spending: $3,600.00 (camera gear only)

I think the following info would also be interesting:

Expenditure Type: Cash/Credit Card/Other (Job pays, etc.)
Photographer Type: hobby/amateur/professional

For me, I only pay cash, and am just a hobbyist (I make no money from my pictures) which is why I don't have all the 'L' glass that you all have :)

These are tools, as well as toys. I bought first quality stuff that
will serve me well, forever. Photography is a great skill, and the
resulting product is precious. I've learned a lot, about a great
many things, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I've still got a
lot to learn, and I'm excited about that, too. I can't see that
I've wasted a dime.
Well said, John; I agree heartily. I'm 57, early-retired 3 years ago, and a photog for only 1-1/2 years. I've loved every second of it. I do mostly landscapes and nature (no wildlife) and have REALLY enjoyed getting to places (the Antelope Canyons of n. AZ, SW Colorado for fall colors, Yosemite in the spring, Great Smokies NP this fall with Michael Reichmann, etc.) I've never seen. I'm trying to be a professional photog but have sold only a few prints. My new 24"-wide printer (Epson 7000) will arrive next week.

Including the printer and both D30 bodies, I have about $17K invested.

Age 58, retired early $12,200 spent so far and a EOS1D on order.

age: 49

Spent about $6000 this year on the D30 and a couple of new L lenses, plus the 28-135IS. Already owned the majority of the lenses and accessories before purchasing my D30 about 6 or 7 months ago. Haven't used my 35 mm equipment as much.

I have spent more on medium format equipment this year than digital....that may change next year depending on whether I go for the 1D or possibly the D30 replacement. But then there is the "new" Contax N1 digital with full frame 6 mp and those awesome Carl Zeiss lenses.....hope it's not vaporware.....

Since February 2001 - About 8500, including a new desktop, photocopier and a couple of lenses. If I am lucky enough to get the 1D before January 1, add that cost too (and two batteries).
