**Mini Challenge #103 Things are Looking Up*

Very nice portrait, Abstract. I like the composition a lot. Is
there a story behind this image? Sharon
Thank you Sharon.

i took this shot during a knighting ceremony of one of my friends at SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism...www.sca.org). i was taking photos of the ceremony while this guy was standing right behind me.

You bet! Looks like he is getting ready to drop a pine cone on you! LOL

Very cute. I love the things we see when we change perspective. I look forward to your next two entries.

...whether the building is in a style favored in that locale or
whether it was intended to mimic the undulations in the hills
behind it. Without the shot "looking up," the church would be a
lot less interesting.

Well yes, this is the style of old churches here in Macedonia. It was not intended to mimic the hill. It was byilt in the 12th century, by the way.

I agree, that timelines shot gets your attention. Who put a high
rise behind that old church full of character? Makes you go hmmmmm.
This was shot in Montréal, and the church was preserved in the center of town, where there are many high rises like this one. It's mostly a question of who would preserve that church in the center of a big city. That person is quite clever.
My personal favorite entry is number two however. I felt almost
dizzy when I looked at it. Thanks for the entries.
I felt dizzy shooting it. That's the single place on earth where I was happiest to own a camera with a swivel body (Nikon SQ). There was no way to capture the whole of the building, it was so big and there was no way to step back. So I decided to try and capture the feeling of hugeness (is that a word?) in the only way left to me.

It's the most beautiful church I've ever seen, by the way.

Missing from the skyline are the World Trade Center Towers, but our Lady appears to be standing taller than the towers ever were....

Not sure if this violates the rules - it was taken a couple years ago before I got my A620. But she sure loves her chew ropes!

Really good capture, CJ! He is so cute and your focus is just right. Sharon

Is this in Arizona? My father took some pictures in AZ that were very similarly colored.
I love the shot. Very good colors in the sky and mountain.

John, these are great shots, especially Lady Liberty! However, they are way too big. If you look at the rules in the first post, way at the bottom (where it is easy to miss :-)), you will see that posts to the challenge threads are supposed to be 150KB or less. This is to save bandwidth and to make it easier to download so people on dial-up don't have to wait a really long time to see your shots. Your shots are 270KB and 443KB or so. If you replace them with smaller images in your gallery at the same URL they should change here as well. Thanks so much for your help with this! Sharon
