Someone is offering me a copy of PS 5.0 but I've never seen it in action and I'm wondering if it's worth getting. I have worked on PS 6.0 and really like it but can't afford it. Is 5.0 a big step down?

I don't have 6.0, but I do have 5.02. It does everything I want to do, but I only adjust photos. I don't do layout design or funky processing.

If it is free, take it.

I now use 6.0 but started with 5.0. In 6.0 a lot of the additions deal with preparing pictures for the web. 5.0 will do all of the photo correction work you might need. If the price is low go for it. Find out if it has ever been registered. If not you can register it and then upgrade to 6.0 at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the info guys. Photo correction is all I want it for. I just purchased a digital camera and just take pictures as a hobby. I liked the way 6.0 worked and considered buying Elements, but if 5.0 works well enough then it seems wiser to save some dough and take this disc. By the way, Jim, it's an original that my friend doesn't need at present, but thanks for the piracy info just the same.

Hi RichieT,

If you are used to version 6 it will be a huge step backwards and you will find lots of uses for all of the extras in 6.0. Buy it and use Adobe's upgrade path to buy v6 for a lot less money.

Richard

On a topic slightly to one side, be sure you and your friend are both aware of the upgrade requirements if either this copy (5) or the friend's version 6 (or both) is an upgrade. An upgrade edition needs a previous standalone version installation CD-ROM (e.g. 4.0) at hand to act as a qualifier during a fresh installation or "clean" reinstallation.
