Please help me to pick a tripod for about $300. I am eye on Giotto MT-8170 or Bogen 055MF3. Any other better one in the price range? I like Gitzo G1327 but it's out of price range.

Thanks,

John

--I have aluminum version of Giottos tripod and like it a lot I never liked twist legs but this one opens on 1/4 turn and lucks fast too.

Though I have never used the 055MF3 but in the past I have been very happy with its 4-section cousin - 055MF4. I used it as my travel pod and several times loaded it with D70+70-200VR. It was rock solid with the combo.

So, I would imagine the 3-section 055MF3 would be at least as stable and more likely a little more.

Speed is significant and interesting but accuracy is downright fascinating

I've been using the 055MF3 for two months now with the Manfrotto 468MG Hydrostatic head. The two are a great combo- the 055 gets the body up to my eye level with plenty of leg length to spare and no use of the center column. the ability to switch the center column to horizontal or not use it at all is great. It is very well built and easy to transport for me.
