dpreview photo essay?

For a theme, how about a day in our lives. Pick a date, say a Saturday, and everyone can take pictures on that day to represent life in their corner of the world. Could be kids, games, festivals, outdoors, indoors, daytime, nighttime, etc., but the idea would be that all pics would be taken on that date. What do ya'll think?

That sounds like a great idea! Count me in.

I like this idea and want to participate.

I like the different theme ideas like:
Cities Around the World,
A Day In My Life,
Christmas Time Moments,
Children At Play,
Women Do The Darnest Things,
Teenagers Caught For Real,
Archetectural Serrenities . . .

I like D30 involvement only, name idea's:
D30 World Clicks
The D30 World
Projects by D30s of the World
Planet D30

I like the registration and password ideas.

Contributions do need to be limited or maybe have a cap but you could submit less than the cap.

Photos should remain property of the owner and not become property of the group.

No digital art, just processed photos. What about panoramas?

Good suggestions. I will put together another list of names from everyone's suggestions.

Of course.

Absolutely!

I agree. This is a photo essay. As far as panoramas, I do not have a problem with that, but I think Pekka would have to answer this question. I am not sure how is software is setup.

You might want to read up on the Olympus forum about their E-10 day and assorted other projects. Here is the result of one such project.

Alright, I haven't quite finished my first cup of coffee, so my
mind isin't working as clearly as it should be... but I just had a
thought.

Every now and then, I find myself with some free time on my hands.
I try to get inspiration and go out and shoot something. Just as
often, finding a good theme or subject is the hardest part of all
this.

What do you guys think of doing a photo essay or photo project
here? If we could manage to come up with a theme or subject,
perhaps each of us could contribute one or two pictures, post them
to some free website, and see how it comes out?

Would anyone be interested in this? Does anyone have any ideas for
a subject/theme? Considering we are scattered all over the world, I
think we could really do a bang up job.

I do have my own webserver with two T1s, and would be glad to
provide space. My database/php skills are pretty good, but my time
is limited. I'd be happy to do the hosting, though I doubt if I
would be able to contribute much time to it. Maybe someone else
could offer to host the site, or even just be the webmaster on this
whole thing? Hell, I'd even kick in the $35 bucks of we wanted to
register a domain for this.

I have put together a Support site for this project.

I did this in about 30 minutes, so it is nothing to write home about, but it serves a purpose. I will continue to update and work on it over the next few days.

The suggested themes and names lists are up on the site with dedicated email address for people to make other suggestions.

Keep those suggestions coming in. I put a deadline of Nov 12th on them, so after that date, I will put together a online poll so people can vote. Majority wins.

Seven years ago I nearly died from a rare form of non-hodgkins lymphoma. After having come out of a month long induced coma and life support one I clung onto every story of a cancer survivor that was told to me. I played these stories through my mind constantly through each phase of my personal battle including learning how to walk again, use of my hands, going through transplantation, etc.. I knew that here was hope and that others had won their battle and so could I.

Earlier this year I was discussing my desire to create a collection of short photoessays on long-term cancer survivors with a fellow D30 shooter. He was up for the idea. I even approached the local chapter of the American Cancer Society but was essentially blown off. The idea being that we create this collection and somehow obtain enough support to get enough copies published so that every cancer treatment center could have at least one copy to share with its patients.

Anyway, I still want to do this project. I think that such a thing could ultimately save lives. Stories of success are incredibly important to cancer patients. I can only imagine the positive impact that "now" and "then" pictures could have.

Anyone interested? If so, I have a lot more of this concept already put together that I'll put on here.
Quick reminder. Tomorrow is the last day to get your suggestions
to me on a theme/name. We start voting on Tuesday morning. Check
the webiste for information on
suggestions...( http://www.firestorm.com/d30essay/ )

Thanks to everyone for their support thus far.
