True. But Canon COULD (even though they won't) do like Nikon did with their D70s/D70/D50 and offer some of the new features to the previous models. I'd love to have the live histogram. Just that makes the S3 exciting, as it's something relatively new for a Canon (Pro1 maybe?). I don't care about AiAF, but some people might like it. There are some other cute additions that I wouldn't mind having.

A man can dream.

cant see the sensor and different LCDs would need different software
as there not that much better then the S2

then you need to restudy electronics and the correlated concept of "firmware" ..

Nope. Unless there is an issue that needs a fix, Canon doesn't have a history of releasing firmware updates to add new features.

actually, it is pretty impossible like the others say.

it's like saying will a firmware for a 16x DVD-ROM work with a 8x DVD-ROM from the same company? every website says you'll break your DVD-ROM if you try that.

firmware = the software inside the hardware that makes the hardware work (thus, it is hardware specific). therefore, since the S3's hardware is different, it wouldn't work.

some companies make firmware "packages" that work with a collection of models, such as what apple does for their ipod updater.

this is a just a dream... there aint no one using S2 firmware on an S1, right?

with lite-on cdrw drives and alot of others you could do that, up them from 8 speed to 16 etc, 24x to 32x . i even flashed the firmware on my nec dvd-rw from single layer to dual layer
but anyway if you all say it wouldnt work i guess it wouldnt

i'l stick with my S2 as the S3 is such a small upgrage its not worth getting if you already have the S2

and you used a manufacturer certified firmware upgrade or a russian hack ?
