I would like to show you some photos I took of the Mexican Grey Wolves in the MN Zoo today. I took them all with the 45-150mm lens. Oh and one other type of dog at the end here, a Prairie Dog. All and any suggestions are appreciated.

Is the last image "food?"
Nice work.
BTW, do you still need help with borders? Your e-mail left me confused...

If you can visualize it, then create it in the camera, finish it off with the print that matches your mind's eye then you are, most likely, a master...

Very good images, great exposure and the DOF is just right.
Great images !!!!

It is hard to tell they are in a zoo.

I did need help. I e-mailed you back and told you I had found the lesson online for making borders with Photoshop so I did it!! Nothing fancy just some plain borders as narrow as I could make them. I am thinking there is probably a better way as the way I did it wasn't the easiest as far as getting all sides exactly the same size. Hope you liked the wolves. I was pleased with them.

Thank you very much. Yes, they were in the zoo and there is a fence that had to be Bokeh'd out. It's very difficult to see if you are getting them right when you look at the LCD display. It wasn't until I got home and got them out of the camera that I saw everything was fine! I was worried I would go too far and ruin the detail I wanted. That 45-150 lens is really good for nice DOF.

Really nice shots...get the feeling that they are gonna jump on you anytime...fun to take pics at the zoo, today, and every first wednesday of the month, admission is free at the SF zoo.

Shirley try to download this virtual frames from:

http://www.atncentral.com

I have downloaded several, but I like Marcia's frames, when you run the zipped file it goes to the actions folder...in the pallet of History..and then you click on the one you want and click on the "play" button and it does it for you.

Thank you for the nice comments on the wolves. I have a question about the framing software/download you use. Can you take a color from the photo (like in photoshop) so it matches very well with the photo you are framing or does it only do preset colors? ;o) thanks!

Nice shots, Shirley, but they all look just a bit soft to me; either focusing or slight camera shake? I think they would have more pop with just a bit more sharpening applied.

Best wishes,

I have found it does the preset colors...I used to do what you have been doing...taken a color sample and creating an edge of the photo with that color...

I hope it wasnt camera shake as I ACTUALLY brought along my tripod. LOL I hate dragging that thing along. I was wishing I was brilliant at photoshop because I would love to make them just a bit sharper too without getting those icky sharpening fringy things on the photos. I know you can sharpen using layers and I think maybe that is the trick. Trouble is I don't know how to do that just yet. Heck would you like a full pixel one to give it a try on with your software you use to see what happens? I only used Photocleaner on these. Keep in mind I am only using the kit lens too. I think the 50-200mm is a sharper lens. I just cant afford one. LOL My first lens purchase will most likely be the 14-54 that one is more in my dreaming on range.

LOL Louis and that one was a funny picture of a Prairie Dog so it is quite Comic Book looking too. ;o) I have 3 or 4 more in my galleries under the wolf gallery.

But in my monitor they are tack sharp!

I showed them to my wife, and that's the first thing she commented, how sharp the pics were....I wonder if this "sharp" business isn't hust a monitor thing...I wonder

Carlos

You don't always have to dial in specific values. Here's one with a couple of passes of the generic sharpen command in PSP; doesn't take much to give the shots a bit of extra oomph--in fact, this is borderline overkill; a single pass may have been sufficient:

Could be monitor difference, I guess; try using "flat view" and scrolling between the original and my sharpened one. Too sharp now?

they get their names because they bark like dogs to warn each other to dive in the holes. They have huge underground cities. When they bark they sometimes stand on their hind legs and jump as they bark. You wouldn't believe how fast those little guy/gals can disappear into the holes. A lady that works at the zoo came by while I was taking photos of them. She told me that after 4 years they still bark and run underground when the Zoo's overhead train goes by, and it goes by every 20 minutes. LOL you would think they would soon just ignore it but Nope! So funny.

I went to look at Scott's photos of the wolves there (who takes some of the sharpest, crisp photos I've ever seen) and I thought mine were nearly as good as his. He took his with sunshine too and it was heavily overcast today. I think that never helps! Still I would love to see what Hokuto could do as far as sharpening goes. Never hurts to check it out :o)
