I'm trying to put together a portable CLS-based lighting kit that I can toss in my car when I know I'll want to take pictures. This is a hobby, so I don't exactly have a plan. I want to use it for lots of different things---people, pets, plants, rooms, art, crafts, etc---but I think one of my goals is to put together a nice little portrait kit.
I don't know a lot about lighting, but I plan on learning by doing. That's going to be the fun part. Meanwhile, I need some advice.
I just picked up a second SB800. I also got a pair of lightweight 8-foot lighting stands with 5-foot reflector arms. I already have a couple of reflectors, but I also figure an SB800 is light enough that I can stick it out on the end and use it as a cheap boom. I picked up an umbrella to try out, and I've got some colored filters for the SB800.
Eventually, finances and wife permitting, I'm thinking another flash and stand for a hair light (maybe sb600?) and another flash (SB600?) for background.
Does this seem like a sensible approach?
Also, can anybody recommend a good bag for safely carrying up to 4 flash units, 3 light stands, a couple of umbrellas, a few clamps, and spare batteries. I'd also like it to carry a tripod and a few lenses. And I'm thinking I'd like to carry a few packed up reflectors and some sort of muslin or something, but I'm not sure.
