Nikon is shipping good D200's now (imgs)

So I convinced my best friend and fellow photographer to buy one.
She got hers 3 days ago from Ritz on line and got banding in the
first 3 shots. She and I were shooting the SAME exact thing
together and hers had clear banding right away. I felt so bad for
her. She shipped it back today for an exchange.

So later is NOT better. At least not yet. For now, I think it's
luck of the draw....

Katherine,

Thanks for your post. We need to keep the information flowing, good
or bad, and not stick our heads in the sand like some in this forum
have suggested. Just ignore it they say, and it will go
away.........BS!

Luck of the draw! WOW! What a way to run a business.
Maybe they need to fire a few people in Thailand!

My 2nd D200 is on the way in today.........will I be lucky???

Let us know Ralph. I have to decide myself, but the luck of the draw is not what I want to hear. Could there still be camera's out there from the first run or did they not do the adjustments on the assembly lines?

It is pretty pathetic this forum got to the point you have to justify saying "thanks" to someone who posted simply some information (which I'm 100% sure is true). And I thought Canon forum was bad - it is not nearly as bad as this forum. Some people here work hard on becoming local heroes, it happens in most "club" environments starting witht he junion school. Facts are of no interests, what interests those people is what to say to become the local hero.

I think here was some thread with this title - when will banding end? I bought mine D200 on 22.12.2005 today - 28.2.2006 I sent it for 3rd time to service and here are still people with new D200s with banding! So if I will be lucky and force Nikon to give me new D200(very small chance), I can still get new D200 with banding type 2 and 3?
Mine is one of the earliest D200s and it has absolutely no banding.
Cannot get it to band no matter how many lightbulbs I shoot at, LOL.

Zorpie, very well said..........and right on the money.

Congrats on your D2X purchase. That may be an option for me down
the road.

I'm waiting on D200 #2, it's on that big brown truck right now, and
I honestly hope it is a keeper.
Me too, Ralph. I am going to wait another couple of months before trying again, and still have the D2X option beckoning...

Best of luck with the new one. Let us know how you fare.

I've read a post here recently by a member who DID get an offer directly from Nikon for a new body after a couple of round trips to service. Have you asked them to do that for you? It's worth a try...

Best wishes,

What were the serial numbers of your 2 previous (bad) D200's from
BB? I just got mine from BB last Friday and the serial number is
3012xxx. Seems a little low for 'brand new'...
How long did it take to get your D200 from bestbuy? I was thinking about ordering one, but didn't want to wait a month to get one.

Well we got a law after 3rd repair they must give me new D200. The problem is 2nd tour was no repair they just check it and said its OK. So no chance for new. I posted my problem on nikoncafe and one member(he is also from Eastern Europe) describe good this situation so copy paste:

"I share your pessimism on that one. Now, since I'm from east Europe, I have an idea how you feel about service. Things work a bit different here than in, say, EU or US (or should I say, the level of incompetence is much higher here)."- we are in EU only shortly so the behaving of companys to customers is different, but when I read DP not so much.

I started to be apathetic about my D200 problems and more and more seems to be only 1 solution-C EOS 5D. As I know how it works in my country it will took long time to persuade them to give me new D200. But I still hope that they fix it! This D200 is becoming for me disaster of the year 2005-D2005. I wish good luck to all who got D200s without banding. Thank you Mr. Nikon!

Yeah...I had replacement D200 in that 3017.... range I received last week. Had six stuck pixels and type 1 banding.

This is insane. Here we are standing on our heads trying to continue to do business with a company that is clearly out of control. D*mn, I wish I had switched to Canon 3 years ago. I'd have an extra $3500 that I spent on digital Nikon invested in a system that actually works! To review:
  • countless messages here re: D200 banding and that getting a good camera is luck
  • focus issues on the D2X and maybe the D200
-Metering, AWB, and mirror box problems on these cameras and D2H and F6
  • NikonUSA has service advisories on their website for D2H, D70, N55, and 3 Coolpix's
  • En-EL3 batteries that explode
Maybe we and Nikon could save a whole lot of bandwidth if we just list and discuss what, if any, products they currently have that DO NOT have design and QC problems! :-(

PMA has come and gone with a very ho-hum performance from Nikon. One new lens and it is NOT a DX. Where is that 18mm PC or 60mm PC micro, if Nikon is truly dedicated to DX? They are lying through their teeth. They are dedicated to DX until they can market a FF sensor. At that time, DX and the customers who invested in it will be dumped, IMO.

Though I need to upgrade my system, it is very difficult for me to want to pour more money into a system with such poor reliability, marginal compatibility, and lenses that might be orphaned or relegated to low-end cameras in a year.

But we've seen plenty of such for lenses but little for cameras.

Anyway, this is a rather good thing to know. I'll need more evidence like this to know for sure that Nikon's put their acts together. From IC manufacturing point of view, screening (QC) spec could be tighten up for less final production variation. Maybe this is what Nikon's requested its sensor, ADC chips, amp chips providers to do. Looks to me Nikon rushed D200 out the door before QC was fully established.
I think your hypothesis is now supported by anecdotal evidence ..
it seems there IS a variation between body samples.. just like
lenses.

As I said earlier, if a bunch of you folks would pull your heads out of the sand, and realize there actually is a problem with SOME D200 cameras...... Nikon might actually do something. Haven't you read all the threads about people having to try THREE times to get a good D200. Are all those people liars?

I get tired of reading about all these "filter fixes", "Photoshop fixes", and "banding curves" to correct and obvious flaw in several thousand D200 bodies. What about a NIKON FIX? Would it be to much to ask them to fix all D200's........so we could ALL use them?

I did thank Katherine for posting, I thought it was interesting that she has a good D200, and her friend just getting a new one that was bad. She also said the banding was very evident, and she didn't say anything about shooting light bulbs. I thought that indicated we still had a few bad D200's coming out of Thailand. What's wrong with that, post the good....and the bad. That seems fair to me!

When all the threads say........NEW D200, and NO problems........ life will be very good.

My second D200 will be here in a few days. If it is good.....I will post, and if it is bad......I will post. I hope it will be good.

You said the Canon forum was much better than this one. Well that's just great. I have actually never been over there as I have no Canon equipment.

I bought from BB when they showed in stock, took 2 days. Then my local store had one and i exchanged and that was bad too. But Id never shop there again becuase they charged me a restck fee on a defective item.

Question, how many D200's a day or month is Nikon Producing?
When you consider worldwide demand they must do thousands per month.

With the talk about good numbers and bad, a difference of say 5000 shouldn't be more than a few days. (I am just guessing at numbers here.)

All the work is never done! Make time to play!

You probably misunderstood the intention of my post but thats' Ok. Yes I like facts and nothing else, no emotions and I should be more careful with my texts I guess. I fully support the info about new d200, whether its good or bad, as long as it is true :)

I do not have nor plan on having any Canon equipment, but they are also people :), so I do browse them once in a while to see what's going on there, to see some pics, especially from the infamous 5d, etc. Just curious, nothing else really.
