D200 Field Review by Jeremy Parker - Just Posted

Absolutely. NWP is great. I'll put a link to it on my website, once I get a links page.
Hey Jeremy,

Beautiful child. Congratulations on everything. I am surprised
that you had time to put all these things together. I hope now
that you are done with your article that you will continue to be
part of the NWP experience...when you have the time in between
changes, of course.

I hope to be getting a Tokina 12-24 as I can't afford the Nikon at this time. This capture of yours shows with the great composition shows off the Nikon 12-24 very well. Sharp, great color, contrast, wonderful Nikon glass.

These type of wide angle shots are what I hope to capture with a soon to be acquired Tokina 12-24 f/4 with a Nikon mount. You've inspired me. lol.

Kind regards,

Tony B.

Great to hear!I think you will be very happy with the Tokina. I had a tough time deciding which of the two lenses to get (Nikon 12-24 vs Tokina). The reason I chose the Nikon was that it had ever so slightly less vignetting from the Cokin P filter holder after shaving off the front two filter slots. Bear in mind that neither vignette when the cokin P filter holder is positioned horizontally or vertically. It's those unusuayl diagonal positioned shots where the impact arrises. I took some test shots with both lenses on the D100 and found that the Nikon had ever so slightly less vignetting at the odd angles. The reason was not due to optical performance issues as my assessment was that the two lenses performed more or less evenly (nikon better on some metrics and tokina better on others). The Tokina felt really good in my hands too.

You're not the only one!
That is not so bad, but irritating enough, LOL. I will be very
curious to see how your camera functions after the patch.

What has been the turn around time for people sending in their
bodies to Nikon?

Hey Jeremy,

Do I hear an adendum coming??? I think that this might add an interesting post-report piece. No pressure. :)

I agree 100% about Jeremy's great photos. They, in many respects, helped really pull the article together. I think that for any sort of photograph, you need to get away from the 'common focal ranges. It all boils down to perspective.

I think that Roman Johnston uses this lens to. His landscapes are breathtaking. While I would prefer a full frame camera, it looks like the D200 is as good a compromise as I am going to find. I hate the idea of having to purchase new lenses.

LOL - I'll probably post it in the discussion thread.

It seems to me that the main advantage of full frame is less noise at higher ISO ranges. If you shoot landscapes, I'm not sure why high ISO noise reductino is important. Traditionally, landscape photographers have shot Kodachrome 25/64, Velvia 50, etc. In my mind, ISO 100 is fast for a landscape. With little noticeable noise, through ISO 400, I'm not sure why full frame would be important to a landscape shooter (not to mention less vignetting).

Hey Jeremy,

Actually, I think that FF may be a disadvantage for landscape photographers...mostly because of vignetting and other such problems. I do plan on picking up a Canon EOS 5d and hope to do some comparison shots between my 5d and 20d with the 16-35 and 10-22 lens (I know..save it for the Canon forum, LOL). However, my reasons for picking up a 5d is that I don't feel like switching lens systems and the 20d is not accepted for stock photography (where the Nikon D200 is).

Fair enough. Fair enough. :) As you can see, I am quite content grubby. :) On another note, I look forward to your next coming to the Big Apple (whenever that is). We will have to get together and compare apples and oranges when you do.
