I've had an S30 since Friday. So far, I'm very pleased with it. It's small and light enough that I can toss it in my backpack or purse, to keep it with me. The Olympus C-500L it replaced was too bulky to tote about (and had a number of other issues). I think image quality is quite good, but then, I'm moving up from a 0.8 megapixel camera. :)

I've posted a few photos at http://www.pbase.com/ailish/this_my_town/ For snapshots from a pocket sized digicam, I don't think they're bad.

Nice set of images; some of the better outdoor shots I've seen posted with the S30 so far. I was happy to see that Stitch Assist works as advertised. BTW, the sunset shot is okay but would have been stunning with a tripod at f/11 or so.

Anyone tried auto-bracketing with the S30 yet?

It seems to, though it helps to do some tweaking by hand. It guides you through this process though, so I'd say it's all part of the package. I did find it worked better to select two or more corresponding areas than to try to specify the overall overlap. The Photo Stitch software (at least on a Mac) only seems to work with images shot in stitch assist mode. I had another set of overlapping images that I'd shot in Program AE mode, and tried to merge, but Photo Stitch claimed it couldn't determine the focal length of the images (even though I could see it in the headers), and I'd have to enter them by hand, but it wouldn't allow that.

Well yes, but that would have required a tripod, and a different camera. That shot wasn't planned, I just happened to be there at the right time, and because I have a camera that's small enough to carry with me, was able to get the shot. It would certainly have helped to have a tripod, or some means of steadying the camera. The S30 will stop down to f/8.0 at it's tightest, though I'm not sure stopping down would have been all that helpful, in any event. Depth of field doesn't seem to be a problem, as the slight bluriness is uniform throughout it. I still think hand shake was the culprit, there.

The auto exposure bracketing, where it takes three shots? I've played with this a bit, and probably should try it a bit more. It takes the first shot, then one that's underexposed by the set bracket value, then one that's overexposed the same amount. My biggest problem with it is remembering that it's not done when I hear the first shutter click.

Hi Ailish: Does your S30 have problem with Auto Focus? Mine doesn't work most of the time, especially in low light. It has been extremely frustrating to me.

Not really. I've actually been pleased with how well the auto-focus works, but then, the poor auto-focus (with no manual over-ride) was my number one complaint with the C-500L, so one requirement when I was shopping for this camera was a manual over-ride possibility. I've had to use it very infrequently, though.

It came with everything that's been reported in all the reviews I've seen online. There's a battery and charger, there's an AV cable, a USB cable, 16 MB CF card, a wrist strap, software and manuals. It doesn't come with an AC adaptor. I also ordered a second battery, and a 128 MB CF card.

The charger doesn't need a cable. It has a flip out plug.
