--Well my Fellow photogs--There seems to be TOTALL Confusion going
around with these Lenses..Especially from SIGMA,who don't seem to
know their Bums from their Faces..lol
Can someone explain what is Sigma 70-300/4.0-5.6 DL DG MAF DL2 Macro Super.
Thanks.

If I had access to endless financial resources I may consider lenses like this (besides it doesn't have the same reach), but back to the almost real world. I say almost because my non photography enthusiast friends consider the paltry amount that I spend on the hobby as excessive ( a season ticket at Man U, Bolton, Blackburn etc would be better spent in their eyes). Doh!

This lens was a good price and gives me good images, what more could I want?

So I take it from your explanation of DG, that if I snap the red-ring 70-300 APO DG Macro on my XTsi, that I won't get vignetting.

(as opposed to my 5D kit lens, which is a Digital only, correct?)

I was thinking in addition to the 18-70 kit

I went out today and picked up a old Sigma 70-300 DL macro for $30 on Craigs list just to get a feel for the size and range. I took several shots at 200 and 300mm and I'm not so sure that the last 100mm are worth the extra physical size of the lense and increased distortion, let alone the need for a second lens to cover the wide angle.. I am sure I don't want to carry it around with me when I'm playing tourist. I think xx-200mm should be enough for that. So. if I want to go just one lens for traveling, am I going to be better off with the 18-200 or 28-200. In otherwords is the 10mm I give up at the wide end worth the exta sharpness? Or for that matter are the 28-200's sharper. I just assumed that because they are a smaller zoom range. If so what lens would you guys recommend, keeping in mind a $400 mak budget? Thanks

If I can find the cash, I will buy a 18-200mm, probably the KM for my summer holidays as I want to travel as light as possible. Having said that, despite the detractors comments, the 70-300 was a great buy for little money and the extra reach is useful at the zoo and other wildlife shooting.

--What you really have/need to do before buying any lense is to sit down n think what you want it for n what can you afford...Prime lenses are Great but Very,Very Pricy..Ok if you got the cash n won't miss it!..If you are a Landscape/Building photog then a Wide Angle is a Must. But also is a Telephoto. For Walkabout you need a Wide Angle plus either a 28-200/300 or a 70-300..I picked the 70-300 because of that Macro screw on. If I could afford it I would buy a Dedicated Macro Lense in the 100/115 range, but I'm saveing up for a 200-500 or 175-500 because I like Birding n wild animals..I also use Close-Up filters that do quite a good job..

It's really "Horses for Courses" n Carefull thinking..Don't go buying all those Lenses if you not going to use em..a waste of cash n time really.

Why these Manufacturers of Lenses Price em so High Beats Me...Bring the Price Down to a Good Level n they will sell Thousands more..Just Greedyness in it!..
Good Luck on your Decision..
