HP introduces new pigment printer...

Interesting.

The pigment wars really are beginning. It sure is nice to have competition. We all benefit from it.

Great---Vivera "pigment" inks. That won't cause any confusion...

Love the products---the names need some work.

I want one! HP ease of use and colour control with the ability to print on Art Papers - just what I've been waiting for (and its not an Epson :)

I have been using this printer since last November and it lives up to expectaions. I have added a small amount of information to my site, but will expand on this with detail photographs on Friday 24th - it realy is an exciting printer.

Which manufactur will win the day with pigment ink - Canon, HP or will Epson hold onto it's lead - the race is anyone's

ALL I can say is that I'm glad I haven't purchased an Epson 9800 yet. Might be some interesting things about to happen!!!!!

The last HP I used was so slow on the fine quality mode I think I could have had someone translate each pixel to me and then paint it in watercolors by hand.

Of course that machine never clogged so it was still better than my Epson.

Is it possible to run heavy 3rd party paper through that 180 degree turn paper feed?

even the hp9800 has a straight through path so I guess the new one will too?

I want one of these.

I have both an HP and an Epson and while everyone complains about the Epson clogging I've never had mine clog......still I prefer the HP and with the availbilty of pigment based inks and a paper path that lets me use fine art papers....I'm sold inspite of the increased costs that the HP incurs.

Your're not going to take my picture with that Nikon are you?

When it says "Eight individual high-capacity in cartridges enable high-volume printing..." I wonder if "high capacity" means this printer will use larger ink cartridges with more ink than previous HP printers? Or do they refer to their current thimbles of ink as high-capacity also?

28ml per cartridge, I will publish all the details on Friday.

I hpe Neil Snape will let us know more about his experience with this printer soon, especially for B/W, and how the blacks stack up against the 8750.

Besides, after the desktop machines are out for a while, the larger format will soon follow.

With Canon and HP pushing the market around, things are really going to accellerate.

HP and Canon launching Epson 2400 clones (although the Canon appears to actually offer some new features).

Have HP and Canon simultaneously come up with ways of getting their thermal printers to print pigment inks, or have the Epson piezo head patents expired?

I was wondering the same thing myself. Maybe new chemistry ahs allowed for wider color gamut throught the thermal heads. Hopefully Vincent can answer that after (what must be) his NDA runs out and he posts a review.

Interesting, the pigment wars are definitely heating up. Of course, all this just had to happen 6 weeks after I buy an Epson 2400 :( Guess I shoudl have checked the rumor mill before purchasing.

According the PDF it's not a 3-level gray system though, unless you're counting "Cyan Black" cartridge (whatever that is - my first thought it was a typo). Since both Photo and Matte black cartridges are loaded at the same time that means this is really only a 7-ink printer. It will be interesting to see how the gamut compares to the Canon with 10/9 ink cartridges.
