My new G2 should arrive in days..yay! Now, I'm interested in both wide angle lens and tele. Especially, some of the Kenko pro series sounds very nice from Kenko's claim of being professional quality. I searched both Canon and Nikon forum for the people's responses and found that in Canon forum, one user of Kenko VC 200Hi (49mm) said the quailty was quite acceptable. But, I couldn't find anyone using KNW-05 .5X WA(52mm).

A user in Nikon forum commented about its(WA) poor quality but I wonder if the jump from 28mm to 52mm degraded the quality. So, now i'm curious if G2 with bigger lens opening will work better.

One thing I'd like to get answer is:

should I buy adapter w/49mm (lensmate) and use stepup ring for WA

or

buy an adapter w/52mm (raynox or whatever) and use stepdown ring for Tele?

Which is better for vignetting problem? Any thoughts or experience?

And have anyone tried these kenko lenses? 0.5X for the WA sounds so good (34 -> 17mm!!) if the quality is good.

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I am not familiar with Kenko lenses, but I would be very suspicious that you could make a .5X WA work well with G2.

Months ago, I tried a Tiffen 0.65X (not their megaplus line, they were not available then.) It was a complete failure. Extreme vignetting at WA, which shot that 0.65X out of the water anyway, and poor quality in general. Here are some test shots: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1532511&a=11611224&f=0

The Olympus A28 is .8X and 49mm. No vignetting over the entire G2 zoom range and sharp edge to edge. I think the Tiffen Megaplus WA lens has also been well received here. The Tiffen is 0.75X.

Hey thanks for the reply eg.

I still can't stop wonder one thing. If you know the answer, please..

The diameter of KNW-05 .5x is 82mm! It's just huge! Was the tiffen WA you tried this large? Do you think such a large might help vignetting and enable G2 to reach wider angle? I haven't seen anyone tried this lens but is my reasoning hopeless?
