Should I take this off my g1

I like having the g1 in my pocket, but with the raynox adapter on it is not easy. I want to remove the adapter, but still would like to have the lens protected.

I know there are no threads to add a filter over the g1 by itself...I was thinking maybe carefully gluing or puttying a very small filter to the metal ring around the glass would be possible.

Do they make filters that small, if not then maybe I could cut the glass out of a larger filter and paste that onto the g1?

Just a thought plucked out of the traffic :-)

Why not cut a hole in the lens cap and glue some glass in the hole.... I have often wondered why no-one has made such a thing commercially available..seems to make sense in this nonsensical world :-)

I've had the same thought with my G2. I just checked B+W's web site (Schneider Optics) and they make threaded filters in diams 19, 214, 25.5, 27, 28mm & larger. I'm going to see if I could use one of those sizes. Definitely a special order item, though!

One of the people in the Casio forum glued a 37 mm threaded
ring onto his lens, and used filters with it. The change voided
the warranty, and when he had problems later, they refused
the repair. It isn't just the lens itself that needs protection on
the extended lens cameras anyway. The mechanism is the
weak link. In the case of this mechanism, there are three tabs
on the back of the lens that fit into slots. They are not fixed
in place, except by fit. This is the source of the sideways lens
slop. It doesn't effect the lens as far as focus, but if the mechanism
takes even a small knock from the side while in the extended
position, one of those tabs can be knocked out of place, causing
the lens to tip sideways under zoom, and to jam when attempting
to retract. I lost my Casio to this problem. The lens adaptor
sleeves provide the needed protection against side impact on
the lens mechanism. Mine never comes off.

I'm not really worried about voiding my warranty so I think I will have a go with that glue.

Thanks for warning me about the mechanical vulnerability though, I did not know there was this other reason for putting that armor over the lens.

I will risk it anyways, since a crazy part of me half-wants this camera to break so I'd have the incentive to buy a better camera that uses real lenses like the d30 - then again, the d30 probably wouldn't fit into my pocket.
