All,

Below is a link to my new D200 field review. The review is focused on describing my experience of using the D200 over the first couple of months. Please check it out on the The Nature, Wildlife and Pet Photography Forum:

http://www.nwpphotoforum.com/ubbthreads/information/php/2006_Articles/jparker/jparker.php

The article contains examples from the camera under a variety of conditions, including landscapes at ISO 1600, a black dog running full speed toward me, a 30 second exposure and several other images. If you have any further questions about my experience of using the D200, please do not hesitate to post a reply to this thread or send me an email at [email protected].

Regards,

Jeremy

Thanks for sharing your insight on a great camera, and especially looking more on the picture taking capabilities than doing too much pixelpeeping.

I found banding on my D200 only on 2 out-of- 1500 shots so far.

Hi Jeremy,
thank you very much for your field review, very very interesting.

I also have a D 200, which I love: back to reflex photogarphy, with digital flexibility, at this level of quality is a dream. And I also love to take lanscapes shots, with results that are by far very different from yours. Hope I an improve.

I have a question: I am always "struggling" on the different settings to be used, contrast, sharpness and colour mode in particular.

Could you tell me which you thing, by your experience, are the best for your shots?
Thank you very much!

Dear jeremy.

Hi there saw your banding, that should not be there, I had the same, you wont notice it at 100asa until you apply sharpening, try 1600asa and look in the shadows, it can be got rid of, mine went on return, you deserve it, as your pictures look great, but would be spoilt when upsized, try some of the raw files with adobe camera raw, it shows the banding up if you have it, even more easily, I think the nikon software surpresses it.

cheers

...why would he use the Adobe software??? I think Jeremy knows his stuff and can assess the quality of the camera. I wish more great photographers would shoot samples with the D200 and offer a review of how it works in the field.

Yes, good field review. Thanks for writing. I like your writing style.

Hey Everyone,

Glad that people are liking the review so far and I am glad that we have added a few new members too. However, I have been having problems connecting intermittently since last night...i.e for most of the time. I called my network company and they claim it is me. Are others having the same issue? I just re-set my router and got nothing.

Thanks
James

Find good light is probably much more important than any particular settings. It means getting up early....

... and congratulations on the new addition to the family ... and to the new camera too. Beautiful images at your site and in the article. The high ISO comments mirror my observations!

Dear pbarn,

I too think its a good review, I have seen this banding in my images. In well shot images at 100asa you wont see it, didnt see it in mine, until you turn the iso up. When I processed in adobe camera raw however it was visible at 400asa , if you look hard at 200% and above. The lines will not be visible at 100asa. Mine was like this it not longer is after adjustment. I also get no type 1 banding either. I cant be bothered to post images.

I'm just trying to help, A good photographer who shoots images needs a tool that works, I rekon peters doesnt. I suggest he run some torture tests as posted many times on this list. I would be suprised if he didnt have banding judging by the example he posted as part of his review. Both tyoe one and type 2.

I did not think banding was present using nikon capture until I start to process in acr. It then showed up reguarly.
