1800 MetalHydride, URL for UK ?

Hi,

Give http://www.digitaldepot.co.uk a look. They do a superb Ansmann Powerline 4 charger with four independent charging circuits and a set of 1800 mah for less than £40. Two hours charging from completely flat.

The batteries are available seperately too and have been very, very good.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Richard

Hi Paul, thanks for the tip. With a name as exotic as "Friwo" they've got to be good batteries :-)

I'm wondering, though, can we use these rechargeable batteries with the Olympus charger that comes supplied with their cameras? Obviously they say things like "only use exclusively with Olympus batteries, etc."... but I just wonder whether we can use their charger. Or is their any other advantage of getting another charger, like one of the all-singing, all-dancing, charging, discharging, reconditioning, microwaving(?) chargers?

Cheers,
Ruli
Cheapest and most reliable for delivery etc I have found so far,
they send using royal mail so are cheap. If you don't already have
a charger, I would recommend a fast charger as the 1800maH take
longer to charge (obviously).

haha, you mean the olympus charger that comes as an optional extra these days!

In the days when I used to race radio controlled cars for a hobby, getting the best from your nicads was everything, and we paid loads of money for chargers using all sorts of exotic means to make sure they were charged to perfection. Usually using a peak detection circuit, or a thermal probe placed on the battery.

These days I think the consumer chargers use a 1.4 fixed voltage limit, and trickle charge once they get to it (do NiMH have a peak like nicads?), so one charge will charge pretty much like another, only some will be faster than others.

So the short answer is yes, I think.

BTW, I got the Friwo fast charger, and I think it's only really average, it's quite slow for a fast charger, but it does give a good charge. Only downside is if you plug it in after you put the batteries in it will try and discharge them regardless of how charged they already are, way round this
is to plug the charger in, then put in the batteries one by one.

Regards

Paul
