Based upon the tech specs and knowledge about the elements in the 85mm, does anyone want to guess whether the focus speed will be as good as the 85mm f1.8?

I know the new lens will have USM, but is it reasonable to think it would be as fast as the 85mm f1.8?

about 300ms to go from 0.85m to infinity and lock focus on a 350D - I tested it a while back.

I'm sure the 1.2 will be just as fast.

The 30D white paper available at Rob Galbraith's site confirms that the new lens can focus (upto) 1.8x faster than the original, dependant on "camera and conditions" - i assume this is alluding to good light and EOS 1 series bodies.

I've never used the existing 85mm 1.2, but my understanding from what i've read is that its much slower than the best focusing lenses, so while 1.8x improvement is very nice, I doubt it then would be as fast as the 85mm f1.8, which I think is probably one of Canon's fastest focusing lenses.
