Here's an image of my cat, taken with the 7-14 zoom at 8mm. The front element was just a few inches from him. Taken with the FL50 flash:

He's a cutie alright....all 20 pounds of him. I adopted him about 7 years ago. His original owner still babysits for me when I'm out of town so he can stay at home. She had too many animals when she changed apartments & had to put some up for adoption & I couldn't resist. She named him for his tooth-like (sprocket) markings. He's a lapcat...as in he takes up your entire lap when he lays there.

Pet Muscovy posing on sofa.

Bosco is a very handsome drake and an excellent pet.

Since you asked.....

Bosco was born in the wild and rescued from a turtle attack when less than a week old. We kept him on the porch and in the house. He followed the dog around; the dog hated it. He imprinted on my wife... she's his mom for life. He was released when large enough to be safe from the turtles, herons, and small hawks that had eaten the rest of his hatching.

Bosco lived with the other ducks in the ponds near us. We'd come home from work and call him-- he'd come running or swimming over. He can't fly... bad wing from turtle attack. Muscovy drakes can be very combative. As he began to mature he challenged the alpha drake... and being smaller was almost drowned. We hauled him out of the pond and again took him into protective custody. Later the condo association began "disappearing" the ducks. We moved and took him with us.

At this point Bosco's a houseduck. He wears a diaper held in place by a a homemade vest. He spends a fair amount of time outside in an unfenced yard, generally foraging for bugs and lizards. He has a small pool. He visits the neighbors. He does guest appearances at a local museum, where he lets children pet him. He swims with us in friends pools. He plays chase mom around the yard. He keeps the dog and cat in their place. He's happy in the car. He goes on vacation with us. He likes North Carolina. (At home he lets us sleep in-- there he wakes us up early by flying up onto the bed or pulling the covers off!)

Boscoe is surprisingly intelligent. He is very social. He loves to cuddle with my wife. He can be very combative when crossed; the red markings look like war paint then. He is very quiet -- a sort of murmuring whisper, sometimes a raspy croak (Jurrasic Park)?

As I write, Bosco's sleeping in th easy chair, using the arm as a pillow. My wife's sleeping on the sofa. In a moment I'll wake her and Bosco will move, too, to the bedroom or an adjacent room for the night. No need to wake him... he never sleeps as soundly as mammals do. He's part of the family & we may be part crazy.
Regards, John.
