What is Pixel Peep?

It´s when you look at a picture at very high magnification. Sometimes you discover things you certainly don´t want to be there.

Eg.
1) lack of sharpness
2) purple fringing
3) Dead pixels
etc, etc

So, if you want to beleive your gear is perfectly fine, and that you are one h.ll of a photographer: don´t pixel peep...

Pixel peeping: Examining images on screen in more than 100% magnification, looking for small, pixel-sized imperfections. And then pointing out that either the lens is defective, or the sensor has faulty pixels.

Instead of having fun and taking pictures :D
I've seen a couple references to the term 'Pixel Peep.' What does

People get bored and start looking for the smallest things. They blow the picture up maybe 200-300%, or more, and then vent over things they will never see in a normal crop.

It's like this; "I want to get in on the fun and do some posting, but I need something to post about."

Pixel Peep has lost her sheep
And can't tell where to find them
Leave them alone,
And they'll come home
Wagging their tails behind them

Pixel Peep fell fast asleep
And dreamt she heard them bleating
But when she awoke,
She found it a joke
For they were all still fleeting

Then up she took her little crook
Determined for to find them
She found them indeed,
But it made her heart bleed
For they'd left all their tails behind them!

It happened one day, as Pixel Peep did stray
Into a meadow hard by
There she espied
Their tails side by side
All hung on a tree to dry

She heaved a sigh and wiped her eye
And over the hillocks she raced;
And tried what she could,
As a shepherdess should
That each tail should be properly placed

f/8 and be there.

Pixel Peep has lost her sheep
And can't tell where to find them
If she new where, they wouldn't be lost
Leave them alone,
Pray tell what else could she do. She lost her sheep, and doesn't know where, we have to assume she has to "leave them alone"
And they'll come home
Ah yes, they will come home.
Wagging their tails behind them
Did anybody think they would be wagging them in front.

A test is what people do with equipment when the results agree with your opinion. Pixel peeping is a test that produces results that don't.

IOW a disparaging term for something debunking your position. First made popular by MR at LL in defending his claim that the Sony 828 produced better images than the Canon 300D.

It's a BS... People should print the photos, not looking at 100+% magnification on the monitor and moaning... "my lenses are not sharp enough, my camera sucks..." and such..

And now when google is your friend, this thread tops the list!

acually there is a job offering from Canon or Nikon called

"Pixel Peeper" kinda image quality controller before a camera is out to the market ;)

You could be a pixel-peep if.....you look at pictures at 100% and tell people that their pictures are soft.

You could be a pixel-peep if... you buy a camera, look at your pic's at 100%...see that their soft and return the camera in less than a week.

You could be a pixel-peep if...you go to DPReview forum and show color mats and blotches that show high-iso noise and then pass judgement on a camera that you do not own.

You could be a pixel-peep if...you're constantly in DPReview forum ripping everyone pictures or gear, but you have no pictorial history in the forum.

You could be a pixel-peep if...you haven't come to grips that photography is an art form and it only matters to the person thats behind the camera and the subject.
