I need a polarizer for my 70-200 and I don't know wether to go for a nikon cir. pol 77mm II or a B+W (or other?). My priority is quality, not price. Which one is best? Any pros or cons ?

You won't go wrong if you stay with Nikon, B+W, and Heliopan. I personally use the Nikon CP II on all my lenses including the 70-200 and am very pleased with the results.

We use several 77mm MRC CIRC Polarizers by B+W. We've taken to the B+W brand, but I'd think that the top of the line Nikon stuff may be comperable. The only bad thing about B+W is that their slim polarizers don't have outer threads, and the cap that comes with the pol. is TOTALLY WORTHLESS. . . and for $160 or so, thats just plain unacceptable! Stay away from B+W slims. Their standard high grade circ. pols. are just plain WONDERFUL!

My both filters (CP & Digital UV) are Heliopan. The CP comes with scale marks to let you know how much CP you're using.

Nikon CP now comes only in slim version.

Hoya has aluminium ring - don't know if that makes a big difference to you but can be difficult to remove from lens under certan circumstances.

B+W and Heliopan have brass ring. Much smoother and easier to mount and remove.

I think there is no need for slim polarizer with telephoto lenses. I use standard circular B+W and I am very satisfied with it.

I am using the Nikon Slim but find it hard to spin the pola with the 70-200 shade on. It's a real nusaince in the field and am looking for another 77 as I waste too much time changing back and forth from the 12-24. No concerns about quality.

You're right Rumpis! At 17mm (on a Nikon digital body), I saw absolutely NO difference between the standard circ. pol and the slim! In my experience, anything 17mm and more (on a Nikon Digital), you're just fine with a standard circ. pol.
