Was my very first sighting of these gulls and was very excited to see a juvenile.........which can travel up to 200 klm, unlike its sedentary parents.........seen only along some of the shores of the mainland.....and of course through Tasmania,

Firstly the juvenile .........looks so very different to the parents,

And the parents,

One of the parents drinking from a fresh water stream coming down onto boat harbour beach.......never seen a bird in this position before,

All the best,

Jen

I don't think I have ever seen that type of gull before, especially one in "juvie" coloration. Thanks for sharing.

Yes Chris...............and they become quite sedentary when adults according to the book..............are a lot bigger gull than our common seagull.

Thanks for looking mate,

Jen

Glad to see that you found some birds to photograph while you were there Jen...Splendid pictures. Did you see any lorikeets or gallahs there, or don't they have these birds in Taz?

Fascinating info and pictures. Guess that one had to do what it took to get a good drink. Funny!

Wow you would never identify the baby as belonging to the parents, what a transformation. Beautiful looking gulls that are totally new to me.
Wonderful pics Jen, love the last shot of it drinking.
