I know you all hate this program but it's all I know right now and I'm trying to resolve a mess tonight. I promise I will get a new browser but for now I need to fix this.

I read the previous advice on reinstalling after Zoombrowser has become corrupt and I followed those directions but I can't get my photo files to open. Here's what I've done.

1. I copied all my photo files into a new folder called Digphotos. I copied the Database files in there also (don't know why but read to do it in one of the forum messages). All the photo files are all there and they open.

2. I uninstalled the Zoombrowser

3. I reinstalled Zoombrowser

4. Zoombrowser now opens from the desktop and seems to look normal.

5. In explorer, I moved the folder with my photos into the new Zoombrowser.

6. I open Zoombrowser and the photo files aren't there. Image Library One is empty. (The folder with the photos shows up in Explorer in the Zoombrowser.)

I copied the photo folder directly into Image Library One and they don't show up there either.
Any help you can offer would be great.
Diane

Hi Diane,

Did you register the new image folder? Open ZoomBrowser, then click “Register Image Folder…” it’s under the “File” menu. You can then direct it to your image folder.
Hope this helps.

Thanks John, but I don't see "Register Image Folder" in the file menu. The folder with my photos in it doesn't show up at all in Zoombrowser. It's there in Explorer in Zoombrowser directory but not in Zoombrowser when you open it. The only thing in Zoombrowser is My Images, which is empty.I'm not even sure where I should be moving the folder of photos to. Just into Zoombrowser in Explorer?.
“Register Image Folder…” it’s under the “File” menu. You can then

It doesn’t matter where your photos folder is located on your hard drive. I have two hard drives and I have photos on both of them. The photos on my “D” drive are located at: D:\Photos\Canon G2. To register this folder, in ZoomBrowser, I started ZoomBrowser. Then I Clicked “File” – “Register Image Folder”. The Register Image Folder dialog box opened and I double clicked the “D Drive” then the Photos folder, then the Canon G2 folder. Then I clicked “OK” to finish.

I have a G1. A small thing, I know, but at this point it's nice to know I'm not completely crazy. However, I wouldn't count on not losing my mind before the night is over! This is so frustrating.
Do you think I can download an upgraded version of Zoombrowser from Canon?
Diane

I don't know about getting an updated version from Canon. I couldn't find ZoomBrowser downloads on their website. Have you tried BreezeBrowser or Scott Professional Photo Studio for Canon?

John, thank you for being so nice and helpful about this. I wish everyone treated people the way Forum people do.

Well the G1 Zoombrowser looks significantly different than yours. Until I figure out what to do here, do you know how to make a jpg file small enough to email? I can access all my photos in Photoshop and can insert them into Outlook to send as email except they're huge. (That was one of the things I liked about the Zoombrowser, it was easy to send files as email.)

Hi Diane,

Photoshop works great for resizing photos. In the menu bar across the top, click Image – Image size. In the dialog box that opens up, make sure the “Constrain Proportions” and “Resample Image:” check boxes are checked. Then type in your desired width or height. I usually use 800 pixels for the width. Then click OK. Then click “File” – “Save As…”, give your photo a different name or save it in a different folder (this preserves the size of the original photo). I usually use the “Medium” JPEG quality setting for e-mail.

Another method is to use the “Crop” tool. You can set the “Cropping Tool Options” to “Fixed Target Size”. Set the Width the 800 pixels and the Height to 600 pixels. This will crop the photo to a size that will fit most computer screens.
I hope this helps.

Yea photoshop is very easy to resize images in. Just go to edit> image size I usally down size my photos to 800x600 or 640x480 and if you save them as jpegs you can modify the image qaulity. I would'nt use the save image to web option since it likes to use gif's and just does'nt preserve qaulity well.

You must have a different version than me. Mine came with a Canon
G2 and is version 3.1.0.40.
For what it's worth, I aslo have a g2 and the ZB version that came with my camera is 2.8.0.4. Wonder if there is a significant difference in the versions. I do not have the "register" lines in the file menu either.

The ZB version I have with the G1 is 2.4, (also for what it's worth!).

Well, I still haven't figured out how to move the folder with all my photos into the new reinstalled ZB. The good news is the the reinstalled ZB does work and I can download photos from my card reader into it. However, I MUST figure out how to open the folder with ALL my existing photos. I can move it over into the ZB from Explorer, but when you open it nothing is there. And yes, the photos are all there and I can open them in Photoshop.

Hi Diane,

Long time no see... or "hear" for that matter!;-) Sorry to hear about your problems. You know how I feel about "doombrowser", but just for you, I installed it to try to help you here. I was able to import several folders of my photos by doing this...
go to "file" then "add image library", navigate to your folder then click "ok".

Doombrowser will give you a new icon on the left screen and then when you doubleclick that icon, it will import all your photos into doombrowser. That's all it should take. BUT... sometimes files/folders take on attributes of programs and so you may want to rename your problem folder before trying to add it as a new image library. Renaming the folder may help if some registry file somewhere already thinks this folder exists in doombrowser.
Good luck!;-)

I think if you're using ZoomBrowser v2.8 the correct menu is File -> Add Image Library. You can then select the folder that contains the images.

BTW, I bought one of the very first G2s only moments after they started shipping the first week of September and my ZoomBrowser is v2.8.0.4 with Canon Camera Support Library v3.8.0.8.

In the G1 version, when I go to "Add Image Library" there are no folders to select.
