H1: got a new toy!

... looks great. No, the dog does not look so excited but the effect is wonderful.
Question - which lens is it ?

Rgds, Dave.
Have fun - take lotsa pix.

I based my purchase of the H1 on the shots in this forum and the ones in the test report for the camera.

I have seen shots from Bob Tucker and others that look sensational in terms of sharpness but this shot of the dog forced me to register to dpreview. It is simply smashing.
Is it directly from the camera or did you "have work done" to it?
Most, make that all of my shots are not this sharp.
Please tell me how you did it. I promiss I won't tell anyone.

Ilona,

first of all, your dog looks like a very nice fellow (gal?). The fisheye lens makes the pictures even more unique and attractive.

I am surprised about the picture quality. There are only a few (and all negative) reports about Opteka converters. Opteka UK offers th 0.22x fisheye converter plus a 3.5x teleconverter for the H1 as a bundle for 74.95PGB. After seing this picture I am tempted to take the risk. Do you have more fisheye pictures, optimum would be outdoors and full size?
Thanks and regards, Herbert

I have seen some wide differences in camera results here but If i saw more like this i would have gotten one. I wonder if Sony every makes subtle changes over the lifetime of a camera? Nice shot!actually its amazing and goes past anything the Sonyf 828 did.

wow! high praise, for sure. Thanks, pmalan.

this one is directly from the camera. no post-processing. i only do PP on shots of my other dog, it seems....mostly black and shot in snow.

here are the specs on this photo:
shot using Aperture priority
F/3.2
expsoure 1/25 sec.
ISO - 100
metering is center-weighted
exposure comp is 0
focal length: 8 mm
Please tell me how you did it. I promiss I won't tell anyone.
screwed on the adapter, screwed on the fish-eye, walked to the bedroom, stuck the lens in his face and shot.... :) ...of course, i shot a couple dozen, and this was near the end....thus his fed-up attitude.

I am surprised about the picture quality.
yes, i was very impressed with it as well, Herbert.

this was just from my first session with the fisheye.
There are only a few (and
all negative) reports about Opteka converters.
wow. good thing my partner - who bought the lens - didn't read any reports, because so far i think the lens is great.

here are a couple more from that same session....just so others can see the quality of the lens, but i'll try to get a couple outdoors ones at some point. promise!

again, these are straight from the cam... shot at aperture priority, F/3.2, ISO - 100, center-weighted metering.

(flickr.com - where these photos are coming from - seems really slow today. hope the pics show up in the review all right.)

A remarkable shot. It portrays an older yet dignified look for your dog.
He or she looks so proud!

I must experiment more with my H1 to get to this quality of sharpness. I still keep trying to rock the lens to get it where I want it.
Thanks for the reponse.
When I have something half as good, I'll post it.
Take care.

Nice image! Very crisp!!
I'd like to find a decent fish eye lens with 58 mm threads.
Most are 37 mm or so and with the adapter produce vignetting on 58 mm camrea's.

When reviewing an image, I used to zoom in 2 steps and trim but by then the fish eye effect is almost gone unless your super close to the subject.

Raynox fish eyes look nice but I will not drop hundreds without a comprehensive review and test photo's
I've been to their site. Kenny .s

valentines came early....and i got a fisheye lens!!

of course, the dog's not nearly as excited as i am...

WOW!...Those images look 1000 times better than that S9000 you had. I just gave mine up. I was tired of trying to accept my bad purchase. I'm looking for a new images grabber. Looking at all brands except that other one I won't mention.

Anyway I'm gald to see you are happy as can be. I hope I can be that way some day soon.

I hope you find something soon, Tim. I absolutely love my H1, and am learning lots. the thing is, i can get awesome photographs WHILE i'm learning vs. the S9000...where everyone told me i had to relearn a whole whack of stuff from my old photography days before i was even worthy of holding it!

i do find that i get better shots when i'm adapting to the conditions by shooting with Aperture priority or Shutter priority. i haven't used the action shot settings and stuff like that. i guess i should try.

the thing is, you can get decent enough shots using Auto...and then get even better by learning a little at a time.

i know i was back and forth on a few different cameras after the S9000, but there's no looking back now. i got the right camera for me!

good luck!

I won't tell you what camera I getting because this is the Sony forum but I can say it's not a FUJI.

OK I can say it's a DLSR ssshhhhhhh (20D) I used it and it was awesome.

Take care.

Are you still satisfied with the Opteka fisheye, Ilona? Please excuse my impatience, I am so curious about outdoor pictures.
Thanks and regards, Herbert

Herbert, i've only done indoor shots so far. with it being so cold out and snowy, i'm not into lugging my fisheye outdoors. probably won't take any fisheye outside till the spring.

are you thinking for landscapes?
