Anyone miss me? How about Megan?

thank you for all the comments from everyone.

I love the D200. Very fast! I like the AF sensor grouping. I don't have to recompose as much. When I shoot portrait, I just choose the AF-group that is closest to the model's head and let the camera do the rest. Getting a lot more correctly focused shots. I recently found out why some of my shots sucked though, and it's NOT because of the D70. But instead, because of the 18-70 lens. at 18 to about 22mm, it's VERY VERY SOFT. I took a picture of some text that was clearly in focus on the VF and snapped it at 18mm and it was horrible blurry. then, without changing the focus, I zoomed in and shot. Very sharp. Which means, some of my issues that I blamed on the D70 and low light was unfounded. Bad me!!

I also like the b/w mode. if you shoot in RAW, you can still convert back to color if you change your mind :)

with my D70 had a very very very difficult time getting most black clothing to be appear black. instead, they'd look brownish. Plastic, hair, metal, if they were black, they came out black. But cloth, it was very hit and miss and most likely it would miss. So far on my D200 my blacks have been spot on!! Nailed them every time!

Sent, let me know if you got it. Whichever Hartman babe it is, she'll be the delight of the USMC.

Hey Chris when did you start shooting in studio set up? I saw "Miss J" shoot, looking pretty good. Do you have your own studio now or are you renting studio/lights? I'm just curios.
Thanks!

...I only have one Alien Bee AB-800 and two Nikon SB-800s and no studio. For the shoot I did with Miss J, that was a small studio we rented in Long Beach for $12/hr. They had a couple Alien Bees AB800s themselves so I had plenty of lighting. And she's a great example me having a hard time getting good blacks. If you look at her clothing...in some of the photos it appears brown when it was quite black. I had to PP the hell out of them to get them near black and often at the expensive of skin tone.

You know what Chris when i come to think of it I've had the same problem with the blacks, I too get a reddish/brownish color instead of jet black. I always shoot RAW, so my Bu*t is saved by PS.

I hear your mentioning you don't have that prob(and banding) with the D200 , that's good to hear, Well for my D200 I'm gonna wait couple of months atleast, for Nikon to get the buggs fixed. I know it's a great camera and all but i wanna make sure when i get it all/most buggs fixed. Anyways keep up the good work.
Thanks.

...is something from the lovely Trisha. I sent her an e-mail asking
if she'd be interested.
Oh boy, these guys are going to lose their minds, when all they can see are hags in burkas and then pictures of Trisha. That'll remind them of what back home is like.

If there is a favorite Trisha picture you think he'd particularly be interested in, let me know.

Excellent work, Chris! I've read that the D200 is a lot less sensitive to Infra-red than the D70. Sounds like you're reaping the benefits of that!

...it was her idea and it was suppose to be colder!! We wanted to play in the snow but...well, Southern CA is not getting any rain right now and we didn't have time to go up to higher altitudes. We'll try again this winter probably.
What's the deal with Megan? Looks like she'd prefer a heated studio
:-)

Is it true that the D200 is less sensitive to IR? appreciably so?

Apparently so. I forget how much of a difference there is, but I saw it mentioned in a post somewhere.

Hi there

lovely picture only joined this forum a couple of weeks ago its a great site for tips on allsorts you look really happy in that picture pose i bought a nikon d50 2 weeks tomorrow and still getting use to it i have an 18-55mm lens and a 50-200mm lens what lens after this would you recomend for distance shots thanks again john in UK

...depends on your budget. If you have $1,000 to $1,700 and want Nikon, look into the 80-200 f/2.8 or the more expensive 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens. Both have excellent image quality and many seem to believe the 70-200 f/2.8 VR is the best Nikon lens you can get. I think the 80-200 is pretty spot on but lacks the VR technology.

If you need more reach, there's the 70-300 G series and D series lenses. Their retail price will run you about $185 for the G and over $300 for the D. Image quality is essentially the same and the price difference mostly covers the build quality. But if you want a pro lens in that range, you're going to be spending a LOT of money.

Oh yeah, another option if you're not concerned with having a "fast" lenss, you can get the 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D VR which will set you back about $1,500 or so.

Chris:

Express my thanks to Trisha, she's one knockout. I looked at your website and found these two most appealing either one would be most excellent, picking from any of her pictures is most difficult
