Anyone hoping the 35D will use SD instead of CF

A Great BIG Fat NO. I just bought a Kingston Elite Pro 50x 2GB CF card along with a Sandisk 1GB UltraII & already have a 1GB standard. In NO way should they do that, nor should they come up with some other style of battery besides the BP511 style. But then again, you know Canon . . . .

I am, that way i dont have to have 2 different memory cards. Maybe
canon will use SD to save room for something else.
I don't want to have to replace my 15 gigs of memory cards because Canon's changed formats. CF is cheaper and faster, and SD is too small for professional use. In a large dSLR, there's no reason for it.

compact flash is neither cheaper nor faster.

the fastest compact flash is basically the same as the fastest SD.

next thing we will hear is that I am not going to buy a digital camera because I have film in the fridge.

Actually, few weeks ago, I was wondering about exactly this issue. I am waiting what Canon comes up with, but as I am short on money, I somehow know, that I will go with 350D probably.

But - what really bothered me is CF format. Too big, and for what? Being there, done that - with G2. Nowadays, my Cell phone, USB stick (reader), Ixus 40, my car radio, ALL contain SD, period! I have easily 1GB SD card, why to have so BIG CF? I like to travel with my camera, I like to have my very small usb stick reader with me, so I just plug-it-in into USB slot, insert SD into it, copy on whatever PC. The size of CF simply prevents this idea ...

I know you probably invested in those cards, but I bet there will be more and more ppl in opposite situation, who will actually move to DSLR and will have SD cards.

Anyway - in the case it would hold CF (which, without SD, would be nowadays really stupid decision, sorry), I already looked up for CF to SD reduction, so I will not buy any CF card anymore ...

SD cards are too small. Not easy to work with when on a shoot.

Olympus XD cards are even tinier. Yuck.

When I ask which Canon lenses are best,
people tell me to 'go to L.'

i bet canon makes more cash from the Point and shoot market of
cameras than they do from DSLRs.

also whats the downside to being compatible with a smaller faster
cheaper technology?
SD is too %$@(% small! I have a hard time handling them. If you read all the replies, you'll find this is a common complaint.

It doesn't matter what kind of memory the next model camera uses. Your current memory will still work on your current camera. If you upgrade and you are going to sell your camera, package the memory with it, to supplement your new supply of new memory.

Of course it is. Compare:

And just try to get an 8 gig card in SD...

That's not a valid analogy. A better one would be to say I'm not going to buy Canon's next film camera because it takes APS film, not 35mm. Incidentally, I do have a fridge full of film -- 35mm, 120 and 220. It's been sitting there since I bought my first Canon dSLR...

I've been buying both types for use in the 1DMKII and prefer the larger size of the CF card for handling. I'm too old to be fumbling around with the smaller SD cards. My wife's camera (some point and shoot.. she didn't want to use my 2nd 20D) uses the SD cards so it's not a total waste. Count me in as a CF supporter.

Actually, if I do upgrade my 10D will become my backup and I'll sell my D30. I'll still have at least one cam using CF.
