Hi all,

These are some random shots taken recently with my new e-500! Please feel free to coment on/critique any of the shots. Thanks for looking.

This one was actually not taken with my E-500 but with an old Nikon P&S. I just love the shot, and need to buy a macro lens for my oly so I can get some with it.

You, obviously, have a good eye for this stuff.

The first image is great, from a compositional aspect. As it's been reduced for the web I'd be hard pressed to comment further.

If your monochromes were shot in the "monochrome" mode with your E-500, I'd suggest shooting in color then converting with your editor of choice. The statue image is not the best of them but the beach image has a lot of possibilities.
Keep up the good work.

If you can visualize it, then create it in the camera, finish it off with the print that matches your mind's eye then you are, most likely, a master...

For the second photo I think It may be improved with a more shallow depth of field so the angel is in focus but the church is soft. My 2 cents. I realy like to other tow and agree that you have a good eye for composition.

The first one and the last ones are nice. Were they shot raw, and
if not, were they in vivid mode, natural mode or muted mode?

They were all taken as JPEG in vivid mode. All hand held, and no post-processing. Thanks for all the comments people, and I look forward to improving my art with help from everyone here.

Nice composition overall. My comments:

For the 1st photo, adjust the horizon line (make it horizontal).

For the 2nd photo, I agree with the previous poster who suggested using a lower F/number in aperture priority mode to reduce the depth of field and throw the background a bit out of focus.

3rd photo looks good, although, as has been suggested, you might want to try either

a) shooting in color, and converting to B&W in post-processing (NOT by simply converting to grayscale, but by using one of the other techniques discussed at http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/color-black-white.htm ), or

b) dialing in one of the B&W filters you can select on the E-500 when in B&W mode - in fact, shoot a couple of frames with each filter and compare when you get back to your computer.

For the 4th photo, the flower itself seems a bit out of focus while the leaves are in great focus - you might want to try spot focus mode, focusing on the flower (holding the shutter button half-way down and then reframing if necessary).

Good job!
